Disability-based historian. I defended my dissertation and now I'm not sure what to do with myself. I guess publish it. Ask me about my dogs.

During the 2015 & 2018 strikes, my university went on record saying adjunct faculty just aren't as good or as serious as tenured faculty. then after the strike still hired us to teach over half the classes. What is it -- we're awful and don't deserve job security or we're an amazing teaching team?

Happy #WhiskersWednesday! #cats

I wish I had a quarter of the wit of the US consumer Product Safety Council bluesky account. I bet if I could come up with these sorts of things my lectures would be killer.

@swordsjew.bsky.social I wonder if this book on the Canadian North might be in your current wheelhouse. I know it's not men eating their boots in the Arctic (or is it?) but I know Tina is a great writer and her work is always so thoughtful. Plus, I gotta push the Canadian historians.

It's 1:30 in the morning where I am - maybe you're in a better time zone or maybe you're up late. Either way, have you seen this great video about dead people? It's about solving crime with science, it's about the importance of government regulations on industry, and also Index shows up.

I know it's me and every other person with a dog but oh I wish I could communicate effectively to the tiny demon children that "it's okay, I'm just getting up for a glass of water, I'm coming right back, just keep doing what you're doing."

It's been a mere 6 weeks since I last took the train into Toronto and back and y'all, that trip is so boring when you do it awake.

I just want to tell a little story for you academics out there, especially the ones younger and more viral than I. I've published 3 books and an Element in my time, so I've been through that part of the process a lot. And here's something that happened already with my second book:

A reminder that the entire #DisabilityStudies team at Liverpool Hope (my former colleagues) are threatened with redundancy. Devastating not just for individuals, but for the field. Students have written this powerful open letter about the impact. #SaveHopeDisabilityStudies

@barrytorch.bsky.social hey! I ran into Funké at Congess - did you know she landed at UofT!? I hadn't heard and it was such delightful news. Also she looks great!

I stuck to my book budget at Congress today and it was really hard. #HistBookChat #skystorians #academicsky

A Chloe says happy Pride!!!!

Was just chatting with someone about the great book "Dr Space Junk vs the Universe" because I was selling them on my YouTube channel and they just bought it for their friend who likes space. I'm useful! @drspacejunk.bsky.social (I did a review you can watch and buy it for your friend, too!)

I've now had the experience of having my editor ask how the book is coming along and it's just as stressful as when your dissertation advisor asked about your dissertation. 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃

"I like darkness, I think it's pretty great!" - one of the people at my emotional support bookstore as I was stopping by with this book.

I'm going to pick up some new history books to review on my channel - check out this review of a popular history of Medicine book and then go to my playlist of other great history books! (My fav so far of my videos is Alice & Freda, but I have loved all the books!)
