A warning from FDR.

Anyone who is pregnant should be eligible for COVID vaccine in the US, regardless of prior health status.

“A snapshot of some of the existing and pending policy that—all told and if completely realized—would position New York as a healthier and saner place amid the current federal-level regression.” The climate play in New York (plus lessons for the other 49 states): www.sehn.org/sehn/2025/5/...

This reminds me of the shale methane situation with fracking in PA when it cost more to extract gas than the selling price. While fossil fuel fracking is expensive, there is no charge for sunshine and wind. It's (past) time to stop subsidizing fossil fuels and go all in for renewables.

What we owe the fallen on Memorial Day.

A note for my upstate NY neighbors and others in the US: UK is much further north than the US with much less area for solar and wind installation. The US could power itself with wind, solar, and water plus storage and not rely on fossil fuels. We just need to say NO to the fossil fuel industry.

Great Britain pretty much powered by wind and sun right now. The place that literally launched the coal based Industrial Revolution - running on invisible stuff falling from the sky. And I make fun of religion…

memorials Today is the sixth anniversary of my mother's death. I know many people who, even decades later, tell me they think of their deceased mother every day. I confess that I can't make that claim. While I spoke to my mother nearly every day of my life, this became increasingly difficult in…

There's a reason I have a "Hands Off Healthcare" sign on my lawn. We need expansion of health care in the US, not cuts.

Climeworks’ Iceland capture plant fails to cover its own emissions “Direct capture is a scam, carbon capture is a scam, blue hydrogen is a scam, and electrofuel is a scam. These are all scam technologies that do nothing for the climate or air pollution” heimildin.is/grein/24581/...

At a time when we already spend more on the military than the next nine nations combined… At a time when everyone knows there is massive waste and fraud in the Pentagon… Trump’s “big, beautiful” bill increases defense spending by $150 billion. Outrageous.

Whenever you hear conservative politicians preach from the gospel of "fiscal responsibility," remember that one of the biggest drivers of deficits lately are the Bush and Trump tax cuts, which have added nearly $10 trillion to the national debt.

Yum!

RFK Jr. criticized @rbreich.bsky.social at a press conference yesterday for saying that Trump is on the side of the oligarchs. Maybe he needs a refresher on what oligarchy actually means.

Thoughts on Mother's Day.

🧪 Re-upping this story for scientists. The man in the photo and interviewed in the story—is physiological ecologist Nathan Phillips at Boston U. Among other topics, he studies urban gas leaks. He’s also my friend. Dr Phillips’ own research findings inform his activism. www.wbur.org/news/2025/05...

Can a small Massachusetts start up compete with China to make a next-generation solid-state battery that makes EVs as convenient as gas-powered cars? Factorial thinks it can. Great profile of Factorial and its CEO, Siyu Huang, by @jackewingnyt.bsky.social. 🔌💡🔌🚗 www.nytimes.com/2025/05/09/b...

A new study from the U.S. Geological Survey finds that groundwater in Appalachia, the Gulf Coast and California is susceptible to contamination from orphaned oil and gas wells.

It's May the fourth!

Important new article in @nature.com: "...the record-shattering jump in surface ocean temperatures in 2023–2024 was an extreme event after which surface ocean temperatures are expected to revert to the expected long-term warming trend." #TruthIsBadEnough (h/t @flowinguphill.bsky.social)

At a time of massive inequality, Trump's budget is breathtaking in its degree of cruelty. It slashes funding for health care, housing & education that the working class desperately needs in order to pay for more tax breaks for billionaires & the Pentagon. That is morally obscene.

For your own health and the health of your community, make sure you and your loved ones are current on MMR vaccine, which has proven to be safe and effective over many decades of use.

I like to sing! Do you?

Under Trump, Americans are relearning the lesson we learned about the oligarchy during the Gilded Age of the late 1890s, when robber barons ran the government and the economy for their own benefit: Oligarchy is incompatible with the common good.

Here it is. A timetable of 100 days of corruption. Breathtaking. Heartbreaking. We cannot let this stand.

No attorney general should ever speak like this. She's Trump's advocate, not the people's lawyer, which is what the AG's job is. Whatever state she is barred in should start disciplinary proceedings immediately. This isn't subtle or arguable, it's wrong.
