There’s something extra disturbing about these stories because it’s never that the other students are upset or express outrage. The other kids know and agree and cheer, and then it’s the responsible adults that take it upon themselves to say “you promised not to bring up the murdered children”

“(On the very day the Times wrote that a vote for him would be a vote against public “disorder,” one journalist found Cuomo parked illegally in a Manhattan turn lane and another noted that he has been repeatedly ticketed in recent months for speeding in school zones.)”

Read this thread by David. Then come back for a story about the radicalization of one state’s GOP that illustrates David’s point.

What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders? A majority of the world’s insect species have no living expert who can identify them.

America is one of those countries where if you host a global sporting event, inclusive messages have to be censored to so as not to anger the central government. In this case the message is “racism is bad” www.nytimes.com/athletic/643...

Dear the @latimes.com: She did not deport herself; govts deport, expelling foreigners back to the country from which they came. What this poor LA mother did, after 36 years in this country, was run. "South LA mother chooses to return to Mexico rather than risk dangers of Trump crackdown." Fixed.

New from me for LA Public Press. What’s a little crossfire among friends? I found three calls from LAPD complaining about being gassed and shot by LASD. I have the audio! lapublicpress.org/2025/06/ice-...

The regime has posted signs at Manzanar, the WWII concentration camp for Japanese Americans, asking visitors to report "negative" historical interpretations. Hard to imagine a positive interpretation but it's probably just an excuse to shut down the park. www.sfgate.com/california-p...

This is the fate of science and scientists in 2025 in the US. It will take multiple generations at best to recover…🧪

“Historically, no one lived past age 35” "I’ve heard *so* many versions of this claim, including recently from a menopause doctor (implying menopause is not “natural” because noone lived long enough to go through it). Every time someone states this “fact,” a demographer loses a piece of their soul"

Yum, cancer 🤤

“Tech entrepreneur pushes plan for ‘Silicon Valley 2.0’ on Bay Area waterfront.” SF Chronicle story on the bizarre "Frontier Valley" proposal mentions the Nerd Reich (thanks!) but not the Network State. Chron editors very committed to censoring that detail! www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/arti...

“Does the US President’s social media post mean people should evacuate Tehran in a serious, bombs-are-imminent sort of way or a silly, he’ll forget about it in the morning sort of way?” is an insane, nightmarish situation to be in

this is the amazing (in a 42 car pileup kind of way) part of this article: the arrogance on display when confronted with reality and the refusal to accept said reality. Every bit as delusional as creationists.

I don’t care if it’s a bit.

i might put this differently and say that it’s always been a struggle, but if you’re under 30 years old, i could understand if you think elites have *always* been *this* immune from consequences

Exactly. Christian Nationalism is extremist but much of the media pretends otherwise, going out of its way to normalize a radical supremacist movement.

They have no concept of a public good, and that's not great given that we live in a fucking society.

Conservative administrations exist to put public property into private hands. It's their overwhelming motivation: that people should own nothing, and everything is rent-seeking.

Call your congresspeople. Much of these are popular recreation areas. This is a way to privatize the places that people hike and camp in. Once we lose these areas we never get them back.

this is a terrific LA-based mutual aid group and I have donated to them in the past.

People will tell you that they view property destruction as equivalent to violence against a person, but that's not true. They think property destruction is worse

Hi everyone I was denied entry, detained, and deported from the USA over the last 48 hours because of my reporting on the Columbia student protests I arrived back in Melbourne hours ago and had my phone handed back to me upon landing

political press is doing a real disservice by basically not reporting the nuances of public opinion on deportations, and creating the appearance that most americans support the stephen miller-style gestapo tactics

Infants can literally just stop breathing and die with no warning from “whooping cough” (pertussis) infection. They do not necessarily even get the infamous cough that older children and adults get (and can be severe enough to break ribs). Do not let unvaccinated people around your newborns (or you)

I remember watching Ananda on MTV. She died at 52 from a preventable & treatable form of cancer bc she worried mammogram radiation would give her cancer. She then declined treatment when diagnosed, which she regretted when it was too late. The “wellness” industry is literally scaring people to death

Once again the correct response to this is to immediately push for a huge amnesty bill. If farm, hotel, and restaurant workers are so vital to the country that even donald trump can admit it, they should all be getting green cards now

It is firmly in the “somebody’s making an active decision to downplay this” territory.

I ended up in the Gowanus Whole Foods today and noticed all these signs and it took me a full beat to remember oh yeah, I wrote a whole article on why this week.
