Simon, we've already covered this. In the study you cited they were abstinent for 4 hrs then given 90m with nothing to do but vape. We did a large trial in which participants used devices with puff-counters for 6 months. They took FAR fewer puffs than you claim (Yingst et al, 2019). You know this.

I think cigarette smoking prevalence could go below 5% in 10 years and be replaced by much less harmful products. If all those less harmful products were banned tomorrow it would take much longer and cause many to die early or suffer unnecessarily

Lol you know I don't agree. They are not necessary for me or you, but some people like to use nicotine products (like I choose to use caffeine products). While deadly cigarettes are widely available, I support adult availability of far less harmful alternative nicotine products.

I am sure they won't be sold exclusively to smokers. But they have been in the market in USA for 10 years and never got over 3% current use among youth. Would you rather non-smokers were vaping or using nicotine pouches?

Did their analyses control for pack-years of cigarette smoking? If not, it is a complete waste of time.

From 1.3% to 2.6% having any use of a nicotine pouch in the past 30 days. In 1997 25% of 12th graders smoked cigarettes every day.

Here's a new book designed to guide mental health and substance use treatment providers on how to deliver state-of-the-art tobacco dependence treatment. www.appi.org/Products/Add...

Glad to see that the smoking cessation intervention was effective and that "no evidence of worsening depression or anxiety symptoms compared to control". This is all consistent with the evidence presented in this new book on providing tobacco dependence treatment. www.appi.org/Products/Add...

Right, but since we are human beings who have evolved to value honesty and to perceive human qualities in objects, it has the effect of making us think "this AI thing is untrustworthy BS" rather then "its okay, the machine has no knowledge, it just provides inaccurate information, but that's okay".

It's like asking questions to a compulsive liar with psychopathic tendencies who doesn't miss a beat when you catch it in a lie, but finally agrees it was wrong, before moving on to the next inaccurate statement.
