I agree it’s worth banning their bad coercive practices. They’re not even a private rental registry. One landlord can’t see the lease info or vacancy rates of another. Only Realpage can! And they do everything short of banning members for not accepting their suggestions.

I’m familiar with their practices. They’ll do shit like threatening to tell the supervisor/owner if the property manager doesn’t accept their price suggestions (more like price requirements)

The right move re:realpage is to open up the data by supporting public rental registries. If the identified market power problem is due to information asymmetry then fix the information asymmetry.

When I think of moderate democrats I think of the state senators from Southern California that voted no or didn’t vote at all on SB79.

I never said anyone supported Cuomo, only that there is apprehension to support Mamdani. There are also many other candidates in the race better than Cuomo.

The SF YIMBYs are still traumatized after endorsing a progressives state senate candidate in the 2022 election who won but then did WWE-style a heel turn and became the most powerful anti-YIMBY in the state senate.

Hi I’m an online leftist and I think we should hire *more* police officers so that we don’t pay so much overtime. Reasoning: overworked/tired officers tend to be worse at their jobs (like anyone would be) and this proposal could actually save on personnel costs.

The ability to know what your neighbors are paying and how many vacancies there are is huge!

For many rental listings being offered, asking rent is the only thing shown! And the public data would give many renters looking for a place more information/power to know what a reasonable asking rent is!

Yes, I think so. www.lewis.ucla.edu/2021/02/08/h...

Do you also totally endorse a public rental registry? Where most of the currently private data on leases that products like realpage use would be public?

One thing I'd like, in addition to autonomous passenger vehicles, is some kind of small, autonomous cargo carrier. Like when I go shopping, just give me ah small container to put my stuff in and then get it autonomously delivered to my home some time in the next hour or two while I'm still out.
comment in response to
post
like if we could go from having 1 to 2 personal vehicles per household to having something more like 1 shared autonomous vehicle for every 4 households, that would be great. I'd have more space in my garage for bikes.

personally, I'm mixed on the subject. On one hand I think they'll be a huge energy sink and VMT bomb, but on the other I think it has the potential to save thousands of lives and there's a good chance it will reduce the need for street parking, making room for safer bike lanes, too.

“They will pay tax on that profit” is literally false under United States Tax Code section 121.

I don’t think one needs to know Latin in general to be able to use common terminology for bad logical arguments, like “argumentum ad hominem” which is what your last post was.
