It's so weird because in my particular workplace culture, UFC is genuinely bigger than football! It's the main thing people socialize around here - i've suspected that it's disproportionately popular in California since you can't walk 2 blocks without seeing a Brazilian jiu jitsu school

Yeah, i think a key part of this was the right shifting their framing from bathrooms to youth sports since that plays right into the American tradition of competitive parenting. The old liberal bulwarks completely went along with the framing there and it sucks so much

god we went through this exact thing back in the original Trans Twitter discourse days, frustrating that people have learned nothing over the years
comment in response to post
Not even just among the professional class either! A lot of intracommunity discourse & beef in general stems from competing Discord cliques

i think if one or two more Luxiem members leave they'll probably go that route, they're the golden children there

i've been saying this with some friends, but i actually think Marie would be a great hire for Vshojo if she were interested! My reasoning is she could help break them into a whole new market (Latin America), like Michi did for them with Southeast Asia

If you like her (she was always one of my favorites in Niji!), go sub to MarieFD: www.youtube.com/@FDMarie

What was unusual with Reimu was that she let it slip before doing an Important Announcement(tm) stream, which is the industry standard here. She seems especially eager to funnel people to her personal account, as she practically stated she'll continue streaming after leaving Niji
comment in response to post
Reimu had recently dropped a hint on her personal account that made me suspect this was coming, and i wonder if Niji's refusal to do anything about Aster will lead other female members to leave in the near future (though that doesn't seem to have been the reason here, she decided this 7 months ago)

Thank you! Feel like that's one of those things that people have just uncritically accepted as Objectively Bad Game Design over time, much like not being able to leave the final dungeon

Seriously, i have yet to find a single challenge vid of FF3 where the player doesn't bitch about the game throughout. It's still quite highly-regarded overall in Japan, so the contrast is jarring to me
comment in response to post
Oh, the other part is that these Youtubers usually only play the Pixel Remasters for the old FFs...and FF3 PR gave way more HP to all the bosses in the final dungeon for some bizarre reason. So if the gimmicks don't make you miserable in a challenge, the endgame definitely will!

We now have stuff like "Can You Beat Final Fantasy V With Only the Worst Jobs?" getting 6-digit viewcounts, which is a ton by the standards there. And Final Fantasy 3 is uniquely hostile to the very idea of challenge runs, having gimmicky bosses that are meant to force you into certain jobs

cvs2 mai one of the coolest mais, appreciate the homage there

There's also RUMOR AND INNUENDO(tm Conrad Thompson) that right-wingers pulled off a corporate takeover of 50501 around a month ago, though i've yet to find any detailed evidence of that one

(She's also freaking the hell out over Zohran's rising popularity, natch) re: 50501, reminder that their organizers called the cops on a DC street vendor for selling Black Panthers merchandise during their last round of protests - the idea that they have armed "peacekeepers" should scare you!

re: Brianna, she's very clearly been building up her kayfabe for a while to eventually take off the last bit of her mask and declare she's joined the Republicans, and the Iran-Israel matter in particular might be her final breaking point there - she's having a meltdown over Americans not wanting war
comment in response to post
Gamboa has been an antifascist activist for years and has brought his gun to other protests for the purpose of defending the protesters should things go wrong (a la the John Brown Gun Club) - the more we learn the more 50501's official story looks like a bunch of horseshit
comment in response to post
And there still seem to be some people thinking Arturo Gamboa was running into the crowd and planning to shoot people unprompted, so if you encounter that please be sure to link this footage

Here's the gofundme for Afa's family if anyone is so inclined: www.gofundme.com/f/help-laura...

We now have video proving that the guy had his gun pointed down and didn't start running until the ""peacekeepers"" started shooting at him in the first place, so nice try there

BTW, the other side of this coin is WWE having its biggest boom period since the Attitude Era these past few years (though it looks like that might already be passing its peak now at least?), particularly given how Triple H and the McMahons have openly aligned themselves with MAGA

Yeah, it's like how adult-contemporary ballads would get played on both "adult contemporary" and "top 40" stations so they used to dominate the pop charts (since a lot of rock music and such wouldn't be played on AC radio at all)

Jelly Roll collabs with anyone and everyone at this point, he's become the safe option

ngl i really like that one Jars of Clay song that charted (and they've taken more courageous political stands than their peers at least), but i get what you mean
comment in response to post
Not metal but you can still find people who give, say, Death in June the benefit of the doubt even after all this time, so yeah i'm with you
comment in response to post
Remember that right after Biden became president, country music had its biggest run on the pop charts in US history. And at least a couple of the #1 hits that came out of this were explicitly right-wing "message" songs. This is the next stage of that process...

They've been a key player in laundering transphobia for years before this, via people like Jesse Singal - glad to see more people realizing what's up with them!

oop aww (he can fight a little in C-Groove in the original at least)

my condolences (he gets a lot out of P-Groove so uh he's pretty good in EO?)

Cuba did horrible things to its LGBTQ populations decades ago but has now become one of the most trans-friendly countries in the world - change is possible if you give a nation room to self-reflect & evolve organically!

Assuming this isn't a good-faith account, but for anyone reading: believing in self-determination & national liberation means accepting that even severely flawed governments shouldn't be replaced with NATO puppet regimes

Bluesky had a bunch of sex workers among its original population so you might see them around

i would say "vtuber" isn't as strongly associated with nazi shit just yet, but it's *very* strongly associated with the Japanese idol industry which has plenty of its own problems and attracts a lot of those kinds of people as its fans
comment in response to post
There are a few voice actors who have become popular vtubers (e.g. AmaLee & Caitlin Myers), and i wouldn't be surprised if they might make that much between all of their work combined, but that's not quite the same thing i guess

tbh the funniest part of this whole saga has been Aster's cooking stream "coming soon" for like 5 months now and everyone saying how hard it's been for him to find all the ingredients

One clip i found really interesting was Michi from Vshojo talking about her process for collabs. She said what matters most to her in a collab partner isn't their numbers, but whether they might do something that gets her canceled by proxy Only the most desperate will trust Twisty, by that logic

America's core contradictions (i.e. class/racial/gender/sexuality divides) were always going to lead here at some point, white men were deeply angry and heading fascist even before Trump thanks to stuff like Gamergate. History may look back on this moment as ripping the band-aid off tbh

i'm cautiously optimistic for future organizing because it seems like the 2020 protests and especially the recent events in LA have taught a lot of activists that legacy mass media will lie about their actions (if they bother to cover them at all!) and we need to message through the internet
