I took my boyfriend who didn’t know who Audra was, and when I asked him what he thought at the end he had lost the ability to form words. Just unreal.

I agree but we’re a long way out from their primaries so this is what we’ve got for now.

I just called and got an actual person in Gillibrand’s office, which means the call volume for her is too low!

I’m very sorry. I lost my guy about a month ago and feel the same way — I keep expecting him to pop up wanting up on my lap or to hear his little footsteps. I hope your cats are helping to keep you company as you adjust.

Counterpoint: the book about Liz Truss’ triumphant rise to Prime Minister, due out several months after she became a international punchline and was chucked out of power

They put the lab there because it was a known site of naturally occurring viruses, so the lab’s location doesn’t really tell us anything about whether it came from the lab or a natural source.

Weirdly mine is Willow, because we had it on VHS when I was a kid and I probably watched it 50 times.

Tbf the Commonwealth is a voluntary organization that mostly does intergovernmental cooperation stuff. Most members do not have Charles as head of state, and the biggest problem with the U.S. joining is probably that it would ruin the medal table at the Commonwealth Games for everyone else.

I hear howling a few fields over.
-no you don’t
I saw wolves in the neighbor’s field.
-you’re hysterical, there are no wolves
The wolves just ate all our sheep
-this never would have happened if you hadn’t gotten alarmist when they were fields away from here

Just FYI it’s “bitted”, i.e. you put a bit in a horse’s mouth when you bridle it.

I just called Gillibrand’s office and was told she’s still no position (or not one she’s publicly announcing, anyway).

As a Canadian currently living in the U.S. on a visa, I’m currently trying to figure out at what point I need to be prepared to pick up my entire life and move home because it’s not safe to be here anymore.

I just called her office to say how disappointed I was in this response (particularly in light of how much I admired her stance on Al Franken) and for the first time in the past two months I got through immediately to a person. Volume must be way down, so get calling, people.

Liz Truss is the only recent example that comes to mind, but I do think it’s a pretty close match for what America is doing right now (but without a Parliamentary system to yank the idiots at the top out before it gets too bad).

If they call it with notice the Dems will be outvoted. Real question is why he either ignored or didn’t receive a heads up from his colleagues that they were going to spring this

I’m getting very strong Elizabeth Truss vibes right now. These people think they’re geniuses and are wrecking shit so fast it may actually sink them.

His argument seems to be that federal recognition wont change for 1.6 million people because they’ll still have state recognition, and also some people won’t need to renew their passports for a few years so until then they won’t be stripped of their existing federal recognition. Insanity.

Max hates wearing clothes but also shivers violently after being in the cold for 2 minutes, so he’s spent the past week acting like he’s fighting off a serial killer every time I strap on his little coat (which I can only do if I first get a cone around his head to prevent him taking my hand off).

Turns out that the major critique of her book—that you can’t remedy institutional sexism through the individual action of girl bossing extra hard—might have had a point. Who knew!

I haven’t seen many takes that it’s a good policy. I’ve seen a lot of people pointing out that framing it as “foreigners are taking American jobs” is a bad message, and that we should be reforming H1-Bs so that there is less incentive to use them to exploit vulnerable foreign workers.

Doug Ford is an idiot but he’s definitely
not Trump. PP is not stupid and I think he’s much farther down the road to MAGA-style conservatism, in part because Canada has built up our own pretty rabid right-wing media/social media ecosystem over the past 5-10 years.

It makes me die a little bit inside that you attributed that line to Phoebe Bridgers (who I’m sure does a good version!). Do yourself a favor and listen to the original, and absolute best: m.youtube.com/watch?v=Tt9L...
