I think the thing a lot of people are like just refusing to grasp is the point was always that the US cutting off aid would cause mass death. That under developing these countries, creating a network of soft power and dependence was always the liberal agenda. That it was set up this way.

This was basically me, when redheads first started trending on my FYP - what did yall DO to these poor babies?? 🥰☺️🔥

this is what they (the normans) took from you

Has anyone converted Kacsmaryk's EEOC opinion to OCR, and, if so, could you send it to me?

Naomi Wolf's tweets are amazing but sometimes I lie staring at the ceiling wondering a) what if whatever happened to her happens to me b) whether I would know that it had c) if it has happened already

Please pass along… If you see “snow” or “ice” reported on Waze or GPS, someone is warning you of an immigration check point. …we beat them by sticking together. 🇺🇸

Someone needs to write this story from the elephant’s point of view.

Novavax’s Covid-19 vaccine, which missed its target approval date after FDA political appointees intervened, has now been approved.

🧵 As you may have heard, RFK/HHS have changed the name, but not walked back their Autism registry/database, and have confirmed they will be integrating information from Medicare/aid, medical records, and wearables. Here is a template for requesting that medical providers don't provide that info:

Plantations are mass graves and memorials to atrocities. They should be treated like concentration camps, because that's exactly what they are. They should be treated as such, not used as wedding venues or party sites.

GLP1s are one of the greatest advances in medicine in my lifetime, if not all time. And there are still more benefits. They might be the first real treatment for people who struggle with alcohol! There’s never been a great treatment for that. Anyone criticizing these meds is just telling on themself

The Dutch historian Rutger Bregman’s new book makes the argument that society’s best and brightest should be focused on making the world a better place instead of making money. Read or listen to more on The Interview. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/17/m...

When someone knocks, check who it is before you open the door. If you don’t want to talk to them, and they don’t have a judicial warrant, you say no thank you. Cops showing up is not your opportunity to go viral with a tale about how you told them like it is. Shut up. Don’t talk to cops.

bought this in-universe history of the galactic empire (by an actual historian) and it is actually pretty good

This is really interesting to me. Of course, it's important to realize that the model is (as I understand it) not a model of the camp (i.e. Auschwitz 1940-1944) but rather a digitized version of the museum (i.e. the space as it is today).

I’ve had IUDs inserted & laboured babies vaginally without any pain relief. I can tell you that IUD insertions are up there with childbirth. IUD insertion requires clamping of the cervix - an internal part of the body - with metal tongs. Welcome news👇 abcnews.go.com/wellness/sto...

One wonders how NBC News as it currently exists would have handled early word of the Wannsee Conference in 1942.

NEW from me — ICE is actively searching for job candidates with backgrounds in construction management and engineering via a third party recruitment agency. This comes on the heels of the @aclu.org uncovering ICE's plan to expand their detention facilities in 10 states. My report:

After finishing the Andor series, I will NEVER look at Star Wars the same way again. Best TV content I've ever seen! For me, Cassian and Luke are now inseparable as the two central heroes of the original trilogy. One needed to trust in the Force, the other in people. A masterpiece.

Things that you can do with mRNA vaccines for infectious diseases that are way harder with other vaccine types: - CD8 T cell responses (generally you have to have live attenuated vaccines for this but these are usually not safe for immunocompromised people; adjuvants thus far are of limited help)

Yes it's Star Wars, but that's almost incidental. Andor is the best popular fictional portrayal of resistance to fascism I've seen. It tells us that authoritarians are fundamentally weak and that courage is contagious. Give it a few episodes. contrarian.substack.com/p/andor-is-n...

I'm at a point where part of the reason I'm not super concerned about having a career is, I don't see a path to succeeding at any of the stuff I want to do without also being a bad person. And that seems bad

The Defense Department will begin screening troops for gender dysphoria during routine and periodic medical check-ups as it looks to remove transgender people from serving, according to a new memo: media.defense.gov/2025/May/15/...

Very bold of Star Wars to wait 45 years to introduce its main character

watched the Andor finale last night and while I'll save the spoiler posting for a bit later when everyone's had a chance to watch, let me just say that I would die for my girl Kleya and I am going to be paying serious attention to whatever Elizabeth Dulau does next, she was absolutely magnificent

I talk a lot about the rightwing rejection of science regarding things like vaccines & climate change as part of its broader renouncing of factual truth. Epistemic collapse! But I've been persuaded by Quinn Slobodian's point that the right is actually advancing its own science: race science.

One of Andor's low key accomplishments was making Stormtroopers scary for the first time in forever. They were used pretty sparingly but when they were brought in -- after contractors and regular security forces failed -- you definitely got the sense of "oh shit, the competent troops are here."
