Well, to be fair, the guy is the living equivalent of the Principal Skinner meme. Things like logic, reason, and the ability to understand the concept of the "self-own" are way too complicated for him.

They have no idea how pathetic they sound, do they? Try my 3 steps: 1. Be nice to people, including (I know it's hard) women. 2. Develop a personality that goes beyond being a resentful asshole. 3. Self-reflect: if no women want to date you, the problem is you, not them. To change, see steps 1 & 2.

At the end of his first term, when he had the My Pillow Guy at the White House doomsday preaching during a Covid briefing, I thought, “this is the most Caligulian thing ever to happen in American history.” He’s done worse things but this was Pure Fucking Madness.

Yeah, it's impossible to watch anything in which the government looks even remotely competent or the system is even slightly just and suspend disbelief. Although, the Secret Service shooting at Ross was hilariously stupid. He might be a hulk and a danger to people, but he's still the President!

Does he keep saying “51st state” because he: A. He’s dumb & doesn’t understand that Canada has 10 provinces and 3 territories. B. He understands Repubs wouldn’t win a national election ever again if each province were a state. C. He knows, it’s just a way to be extra demeaning. D. All of the above.

I've always been kind of indifferent when it comes to Superman, but this looks like it is going to be really good!

Obviously this is a thriller, not a horror, but close enough. Although it is a bit absurd at some points, it is suspenseful enough and has a few solid twists and turns to keep it fun. I liked a lot more than I thought I would!

This looked bad but the last trailer made it look fun, & that David Dastmalchian had major part. Unfortunately, it was very paint by numbers, plot threads were introduced and dropped, and Rosario was way too with it and calm to be realistic. Some of the gross out stuff was fun, but it was pretty bad

primal entity tied to the generational connectivity of music, more directly manifested from Sammie’s playing would have felt more natural. Still, don’t get me wrong, Sinners was incredible, and thus far the best horror film of the year! If you haven’t seen it, you should. It lives up to the hype!

This was such a cool film. As a mythology teacher, I was struck by how it embraced and depicted the shamanistic, ecstasy inducing power of music. The funny thing is, I could have done without the vampires; I was already hooked and mesmerized. It felt like the wrong monster. A more ancient and…

The irony is that he's so close to getting it. The system sucks for everyone and people (but mostly men) have been bamboozled by richer men, into thinking that the natural state of manliness is suffering. So men are victims, they just don't know how they are being victimized and are complicit in it.

It's okay! It's alright! Everybody gets LAID.... Tonight!

It really is a great film.

Such a great movie. It's not "overlooked" but it is still far too overlooked.

Great list! I agree with the majority of your rankings. I really hated Annabelle Comes Home. With all the stuff in the “keep out” room it had so much potential to be batshit insane fun. But they didn’t even bother to get creative. My expectations were super low and it was still disappointing.

Imagine there is a famous game series called "Grand Theft Auto" where you, the player, steal cars and commit other crimes, and wondering if it "might" make the cops the antagonists. This isn't just a media literacy issue. It's a literacy issue, as in they don't even know what the words mean.

Ah yes, when I think "cinephile," I think "The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It." How can anyone call themselves a fan of the cinema if they have neglected to watch such an all time classic? The irony of this guy's smug snobbery is so thick it's a wonder he doesn't choke on it when he's talking.

Worked with a guy back during the Bush admin who was republican, and as we were debating something, he went all Star Wars and said “you don’t know the power of the dark side.” I said, “At least we agree, your side is the dark side.” That gave him a moment’s pause. Now they embrace their evil.

Yeah, I saw that on 411mania a few minutes ago and did a double take. This sounds like an incredible opportunity for her, and with Neon behind it, it could really have legs. That said, Bad Lieutenant isn’t a franchise that carries positive weight, it could benefit from a different name.

I've only seen the 1942 version of Cat People. I don't think that version works because although Irena is convinced she's a beast, she is a beauty on the outside, and Oliver tries to tell her that she's just caught up with old folktales. Really great movie though.

Yeah, and total pieces of shit like Zeus and Odin get celebrated for all the terrible things they do. It's no secret who (men or women) were telling those stories...

VERY SAD! You would think that straight forward Handsome and the Hag (I don't think that's an official term, but I like it!) style story would have been made by now.

There is a Russian Slavic folktale about the Tsarevna Frog. Prince Ivan meets and marries her. But it doesn't fully work. She can turn into a human at times. When she does for a ball, he burns her frog skin so she'll stay human, but it causes her to leave him. He regrets it, so he goes to find her.

on the inside. But it's only after he's already fallen in love with her when he thought she was conventionally beautiful. Again, it does offer a unique take on the format, but to fit what the OP is saying I think it would have to be "Handsome & the Hag" to truly have the roles reversed.

I see your point and it does stand out, but I have to agree with Jaine. If the point is Beauty & Beast only goes one way, then Shallow Hal doesn't quite work because Hal doesn't see Rosemary as a beast (he's no beauty either, inside or out). Yes, he learns the lesson that true beauty is...

Doesn't the gillman slice open her throat and turn her into a gillwoman with his healing power? That how I interpreted it.
comment in response to post
This is a tangent but it might why the Beauty & Beast dynamic goes one way. This is so Freudian (also sorry if I'm out of line), but is this a penetration thing? Elisa consents to sex with the aroused gillman. Can a gillwoman truly consent to sex with a man? Is one way more repulsive than the other?

I was going to say Shallow Hal too, but your observation cleared up why I wasn't sure it would be a good choice (other than the obvious reasons). Also, Jack Black seems like a fun guy but he's not the god Apollo incarnate looks wise either.

It’s a masterclass in how to build dread through ambiguity. Whether you believe the demon is real or is a hallucination doesn’t matter much; Kat believes. The ending is basically perfect. It is one of the bleakest and devastatingly empty endings I have ever seen.

By their logic, yes. (made up quote, but probably what they think) "When a man ejaculates inside a woman, the testosterone of his semen changes her. Each time she becomes more like a man. She starts demanding the same level of pleasure a man gets from sex, hence the requests for oral stimulation."

Really good found footage (the kind that makes you forget you are watching a movie) is on a completely different level than any other kind of movie. I can’t say I agree with everything on this list but there are some good ones!

I guess I interpreted "saving face" differently. I took it to mean that the person who is changing their position on something still retains the belief that they were mostly right. But if saving face means they don't have to endure humiliation, and get treated with some respect, then yes, I agree.
comment in response to post
Not necessarily saving face. But yes, if someone realizes they were wrong, or are coming to terms with a deep flaw, saying "servers you right, you idiot" makes them want to justify their behavior and shuts down their change. They showed a vulnerability and got smacked, so they won't show one again.

I couldn't agree more. It pains me to say this because I have deep resentments against the self-indulgent Trump voters, but it's important to stifle our own vindictiveness when they see the consequences of their actions. This is when they need to be shown the alternative to pettiness and hate.

It’s a hard lesson to learn, but 100x yes.
