hoping to leave things a bit better than i find them - and see some of the world in the process Not sure what else you'd think, but: views my own, travel deals posted as PSA, RTs not endorsements - except for the dogs. Those I endorse.

So. They expect to find gang members and violent criminals...at work? "You’re going to see more work site enforcement than you’ve ever seen in the history of this nation,” Thomas D. Homan, the White House border czar told reporters.

The weird, often whitewashed way the civil rights movement is taught (or not taught) seemed to convince a lot of people that nonviolence was met with nonviolence, instead of you know, dogs, hoses, beatings, death, etc

“Whoever, except in cases and under circumstances expressly authorized by the Constitution or Act of Congress, willfully uses any part of the Army or the Air Force as a posse comitatus or otherwise to execute the laws shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both.”

for context here’s a map of greater Los Angeles and the protest is the roughly the red circle

Everything that’s happened over the past six months has been a response to an imaginary crisis. There is no immigrant invasion. No trade crisis. No scientific or governance crisis. Just people completely high off their own supply trying to fundamentally reorder society. None of this had to happen.

This is very specifically illegal, not in like an interpretive way, it is literally written in black and white in the statute that reps must be let in to perform oversight

Looks like protesters successfully pressured a Pasadena hotel to force ICE agents out.

Her name is Rosie: "A lot of vendors are undocumented and can't be here today. So those of us who can, we gotta show up"

The $9.4 billion rescission request is laid out in a memo authored by Russell Vought, who wrote that the clawback “would eliminate programs that are antithetical to American interests, such as funding the WHO, LGBTQI+ activities, ‘equity’ programs, and radical Green New Deal-type policies.”

Them: “LA is a full on insurrection” Us at the protest:

Statement from former Vice-President Kamala Harris:

By no means the most important point, but the president making these fantastical claims again raises the question of judicial deference to executive branch factual determinations in the invocation of emergency/wartime powers.

BREAKING The administration of California Governor Gavin Newsom is asking Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to rescind his order and return the National Guard to the control of the State of California.

F'real, "national security" is already often wrongly treated as a magic talisman that presidents can invoke to ward off constitutional scrutiny That kind of acceptance at face value is even more unwise when you have an executive branch staffed almost exclusively with lyinass liars

I’ve been studying civil rights protests for 20 years. With new mobilization against Trump’s agenda, I’m sharing a thread summarizing my research on how nonviolent & violent actions by 1960s activists and police influenced media, elites, public opinion & voters. 1/ www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

Ed, the pet zebra that broke free and was running loose in Tennessee, has been captured and air-lifted to safety. Oh buddy, how you enjoyed it while you could.

Stephen Miller got caught repeatedly trafficking in white nationalist rhetoric and conspiracy theories and an ABC News reporter got suspended for calling Miller hateful

In LA, officers deployed tear gas and shot rubber bullets at protesters fighting against ICE raids. Here’s a reminder that those anti-protest weapons—which are billed as relatively safe—can actually cause serious harm.

NEW: I analyzed nearly 300 federal cases involving the Trump administration. Federal judges—across the political spectrum—are using language I’ve never seen before. One called government actions “unconscionable.” Another quoted Kafka. They’re begging us to pay attention.

🎯Tuesday, June 10th 7pm. ACLU will be doing a “Know Your Rights Training” for the No Kings protest on Zoom. Please sign up to attend. Helpful info for ALL peaceful protests. 👇🏼 #Pinks act.aclu.org/a/2025-kyr-t...

Trump was so concerned with what was happening in LA last night, he attended a UFC fight.

More commentary below, via @samwang.bsky.social Public comments have impact because the adminstration is legally obligated to consider them, and failure to do so will increase the chance that the rule can be successfully overturned in court. It's easy to respond - it took me only a few mins.

Take a minute and make a quick comment that the Trump Administration should not politicize the civil service and remove protections from public servants. Might help for future litigation, etc.

“A 2010 study that analyzed 40 years of protest coverage in five major newspapers, including The New York Times and The Washington Post, found that the papers depicted protests — even peaceful ones — as nuisances rather than as necessary functions of democracy.”

Every accusation is a confession

Earlier today ICE agents hit someone with a car and tear gassed a neighborhood, sparking several fires and disrupting businesses. Immigrants, by contrast, did not.

Lego art 🍳 😄

everyone who’s spent years stockpiling weapons and screeching about “tyranny” and “government overreach” sure is fucking quiet right now

Every person on Bluesky should know: * Every post on Bluesky is PUBLIC forever * Every post on Bluesky is archived by ICE, NSA, and many other agencies * Even if you delete a post, it’s already been captured * Judges don’t care if you were “kidding” or being ironic www.404media.co/the-200-site...

this is what paramount looks like right now

i was just in paramount basically a block away from ground zero of the confrontation, there is no civil unrest, nothing is wrong. people are going about their business heading to dinner and parties.

Reminder that this country had an insurrection on Jan 6 and Trump refused to send in the National Guard.

The federal government is taking over the California National Guard and deploying 2,000 soldiers in Los Angeles — not because there is a shortage of law enforcement, but because they want a spectacle. Don't give them one. Never use violence. Speak out peacefully.

There is no bigger story right now than the White House asserting that California residents are in a state "of rebellion against the authority of the Government of the United States."

BREAKING: please, everyone, turn on local news. there is NOTHING going on in LA. Its over, the protest broke up hours ago. Local news helicopters are trolling for trouble and there's none. Just some LAPD/LASD road blocks. If they 'send the Guard' now, its just because they really really want to.

Paramount, CA is putting out a call for environmental engineers to collect and preserve air, soil, and water samples from the tear-gassed areas for examination and documentation.

If you want to show solidarity with Los Angeles, the best thing to do is organize protests against ICE tonight/tomorrow in your own cities. Search the web for ICE rapid response networks in your own city / state and sign up. Help your neighbors.

Sharing this tonight for those in LA and for future protesters everywhere

The crackdowns on civilians and the threat of the national guard being sent to LA should be *the* most important story right now-- not the Trump/Musk feud or whatever the f**k that was. People are being terrorized all over the country. News outlets need to get it together.

as someone who grew up in Southern California, I never in my life thought I'd see an administration that was too extreme for the LAPD. Wild times, and I'm thinking of everyone's safety tonight.

This is what's happening. One of the most brutal municipal police forces in the US is being told to step aside because ICE needs to crack skulls right now.

We could really use some more specifics here on the legal authority in question
