Early 2000’s, neighbors mistook me for Tess Gerritsen. Just last month, another senior neighbor wanted to know if I’m Japanese. He wanted me to identify something he just picked up at the store. It was ramen.

Except for my elderly geography teacher, who had served under Hitler. He was the only one ever to know, to say, I’m from the Arctic peoples. That was a little eerie, imagining him in his youth identifying the Volks.

Eggs! I make a 6 egg frittata for a week of ready to eat breakies for the week. Sometimes with fresh cooked veggies, more often I just mix in any of the leftover veggies from the fridge. Quiche with or without crust. Egg drop soup. Spaghetti carbonara? And sub the bacon with taco meat?

I love this, “gaman, Georgie.” For encouragement, for us here now, Chen at a loss for words, “gaman” sounds like ‘come on’ Come On Let’s DO this! I will remember this anecdote (bit of history and bit of languages ESL and second languages) whenever I need to hear or offer encouragement.
