i’m not a foreign policy expert but i don’t think this is how ceasefires work

Was just telling a coworker that I don't miss the humidity but I do miss 2 things that come with it: fireflies and frogs

I miss a lot of wildlife rehab with raptors, though I am very glad to not be responsible for thawing frozen dead mice to feed them anymore. We had quite a few that were too injured or too comfortable with humans to release (that was always the goal) and hanging out with those guys was the coolest.

Your mom endorsed Cuomo

Early voting is great, universal mail in ballots would be amazing.

Just watched 3 @denverpolice.bsky.social cars swarm a car, pull their guns, screaming at the passengers. This after they terrorized and chased a group of kids through Northfield with paintball guns. Miss me with the “we should call the cops on ICE” nonsense.

“He has always worked hard to put food on the table for us and my mom,” said Alejandro. “He was always careful and always did his taxes on time. He never caused any problems and he is known as a kind and helping person by everyone in our community.” santanero.org/2025/06/21/l...

I often think of her "So Be It! See To It!"

And I want people who were grown at that time to remember how absolutely LONELY it felt to be anti-war. The massive protests were only refracted through the lens of the MSM.

If you are looking to get your mind onto something creative, interesting, inspiring, PBS has a new doc on Edna Lewis who, despite knowing a bit about her, I didn't know she really originated the "farm to table" movement, having mostly heard Alice Waters be credited. www.kcrw.com/culture/show...

THE BELL JAR HARD ❌ It was a queer, sultry summer, the summer they electrocuted the Rosenbergs, and I didn't know what I was doing in New York EASY ✅ That summer was sizzling, and so were the Rosenbergs

it’s even more demoralizing when the history you’re repeating is history you were around for the first time

I would probably subscribe to a patreon of @bakerdphd.bsky.social live posting about reality TV. Re: the apparent near monolithic whiteness of the show, Gallatin to Kansas City KS is an hour away which for this part of the country is basically just around the corner and KCK is full of Black ppl 👀

If you were too young in 2003 here is what Bush told the American people: 1) The Iraq War won’t cost a lot of money 3) We won’t need a lot of troops 4) We’ll bring peace and freedom to Iraq 5) We’ll find WMDs 6) We’ll be welcomed as liberators 7) It will be easy 8) It won’t take long All lies.

It's a silly thought but this reminded me of the so-called July crisis (three week delay) that preceded the Austria Hungary declaration of war that started WWI which ncluded some of the heads of state/diplomats being "on vacation" to give cover to the delay

The Democrats’ biggest brand challenge is that voters don’t think the believe in anything The Democrats’ biggest operational challenge is a leadership that consistently proves those skeptical voters correct

It feels important at least to me that the first elder millennials' elections we could vote in were Bush v. Gore (1999/20 - my first election) or Bush v. Kerry (2003/04) and that the first W. Bush presidency was the first election where the person who won the popular vote was not the person who won.

So once again, we’re back to the same question: What exactly is Congress prepared to do?

can ppl stop screaming about WW3 the thing about world wars is to start one you need countries to go to war that have friends who also want to go to war for their buddy, not 2 countries led by guys whose own wives refuse to talk to them

You have more in common with the average Iranian citizen than you do with the people that run this country

It feels a little too on the nose to have been attending a conversation on the international historical and legal construction of whiteness and have someone in the room say "so...the US just bombed Iran"

They’re going to try to make you feel insane for opposing this war. They’ll ignore protests and downplay any opposition. They’ll try to strongarm you into submission. They did it with Iraq and they’ll do it again. And then a few years later they’ll pretend they were with you all along.

Your enemies are people in actual power not some random person on the internet.

A fun thing I realized after talking to my dad is that as a young man in the early 20th c my grandfather was a union steward for the United Packinghouse Workers, which became UFCW. Organized labor is foundational to my and my family's success in this country. Labor history isn't just history.

I wrote about the ICE drama with the Dodgers and why they are (finally at long last) doing the right thing (pressure pressure pressure) www.thenation.com/article/soci...

Harvard IS really great at resisting "Cellini & his researchers have identified more than 900 people that had been enslaved by university affiliates...& nearly 500 of their direct living descendants. It wasn’t long after the work began to pick up steam that Cellini started running into trouble."
