Halfway through the sweep.

Just trying to understand why liberals are hating on Tapper. Thinking that one possibility is that he must be a traitor like the ones who persuaded Biden to drop out. But I get that American politics is confusing these days.

I like Jake. Joe and his people completely fucked your country over. Good luck with the fascists.

Satire is the use of irony, sarcasm and ridicule to expose vice or folly. Vice and folly appear vividly and unapologetically every day in the United States. There's nothing to expose. Satire is dead.

So common. Saw it in a Globe & Mail column recently. I suggest a rule of thumb: use "understate" with "should not," never "can not." Same with underestimate.

It's obvious here in Canada where we're bombarded with American news. It's the reason that the Liberals will win on Monday.

@gtconway.bsky.social Mainstreet is sort of the Rasmussen of Canada.

I remember when Americans thought Inherit The Wind was admirable. And To Kill A Mockingbird.

Revealing. Thanks for posting this Kara.

You were right the first time. The Globe and Mail investigated and found that about half of the 43 pound total has no connection to Canada.

I think that Americans are starting to realize that they live in an evil country.

It's easy for us Canadians to have contempt for Trump and Vance and the 77 million dopes who voted for them, but to see "the States" as an enemy is an adjustment.

The first episode of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel was set in 1958. Her husband supposedly ripped off a Bob Newhart routine. As every Bob Newhart fan knows, his work first became known in 1960. The series was dead to me.

I've been surprised that her name hasn't come up more often in the last two months. Steve Davis, Musk's lieutenant: "He joined the board of the Atlas Society, a nonprofit dedicated to the teachings of the libertarian author Ayn Rand." (NYT) Engineers + Ayn Rand are a recipe for systematic cruelty.

I confess that I have forgotten. But it has been 50 years.

Yes. Sadly we are in an Ayn Rand novel. And I am not kidding.

Ah, if only Tom Wolfe were alive.

I like how Heather Richardson connects the word socialism to the history of slavery and racism. Here in Canada the word has none of those connotations. Which is one reason a democratic socialist party was able to engineer the creation of a universal healthcare system in the 1960s.

I was riding on Bloor Street yesterday thinking that I must enjoy this while it lasts because this bike lane will be gone in a few months.

I'll miss that $560/yr.

As a Canadian I wasn't very familiar with the story so I thought it was excellent. And you're right about Law.

Makes me think of the old punctuation poser: "James while John had had had had had had had had had had had a better effect on the teacher"

Hence the pathetic pretext that it's about drugs and illegal immigrants.

There are a lot of famous Canadians living in the United States. I’ve been wondering when they would start speaking up in defence of Canada. We know it’s a hard thing to do, but they know it’s the right thing to do. I hope Mike Myers is the beginning of a tidal wave. Are you a Myers or a Gretzky?
comment in response to post
They should really just settle on Dennis Newton.

This reminds me that Globe & Mail TV critic John Doyle thought Bullard was really funny but hated 30 Rock. Strange comedic instincts.

The number one word that we Canadian actors are instructed to pronounce in the American fashion in auditions for American TV shows is "sorry."
