🚤 Russia…

President Macron’s lightning visit to Greenland today marks a significant shift in his cautiously friendly dealings with Donald Trump since he returned to power. From the moment he landed in Nuuk, the first French president ever to do so, Macron was trolling Trump. 1/ youtu.be/P3cKxMXC-ms?...

I count 49 news headlines on the NYT mobile app home page right now, not including opinion, sports or cooking. None of them are about the massive protests yesterday.

“The road to authoritarianism is filled with people telling you you are overreacting.” @governorwalz.mn.gov speaking at @americanprogress.bsky.social right now

Trump diplomacy's new low: Rubio congratulates Russians on Russia Day Polls show that 3/4 of Russians support Moscow's ongoing colonial war in Ukraine, while Russian "opposition" often repeats the Kremlin's talking points. euromaidanpress.com/2025/06/12/t...

Tyranny of the minority.

🔵 This week's Tom the Dancing Bug comic! - "A Busy, Busy Day at the Airport" after the late, great Richard Scarry 🛫🐻‍❄️🐻🐷🐱🐶🐭🛬 - Brought to you by the Inner Hive, including new members Jeff Allison and resolvedwaldron. ( join us at bit.ly/theInnerHive !) - READ IT RIGHT HERE👇

Okay, it's taken me a full day to bring myself to post this comic from 2022, but here it is.

🧵 I argue that we can understand the functioning of democracy through 3 core ideals, verification, deliberation and accountability. While no democracy fully achieves those ideals, this thread explains how MAGA destroys all three and inevitably results in democratic regression into authoritarianism.

🧵 Several people have raised questions about what I meant by "deservedly so" when referring to the decline of institutional trust. It's a fair question, so I want to explain that, because it sits at the heart of my work on how democracies collapse when their epistemic foundations rot.

The conditions that have led to what’s happening in the US today exist in democracies around the world. They are an inevitable outcome of our collective failure to adapt to fundamental changes in the information ecosystem on which our democracies were originally built.

We need to sort this out.

Reinforcing my friend @radiofreetom.bsky.social. We’re required to refused to obey illegal orders. The military is trained on that, starting in basic. It’s also unfair to National Guard and active Marines to even put them in that circumstance against fellow citizens if not a true emergency.

An Australian journalist was shot with what’s been reported as a rubber bullet while covering immigration protests in LA. 9News US correspondent Lauren Tomasi was hit in the leg by a non-lethal round fired by an officer in riot gear. Footage shows the officer turn toward the cameras before firing.

Can you give blood?

American cops are, without a doubt, undertrained. That's also, to a fair extent, irrelevant to what we're seeing here. An officer deliberately aiming a firearm at a reporter and pulling the trigger isn't a matter of training. It's a matter of "the cops want to shoot reporters"

🕯️ A rescue ceremony is being held in Kyiv in honor of the rescuers who died as a result of enemy shelling on June 6. 💔 The occupiers took the lives of people who were the first to rush to eliminate the consequences of the terrible strike. 3 firefighters from Kyiv garrison died and 16 more injured.

This is what Capitol Police expected him to do on Jan 6. He didn’t.

Watch the slow motion: it appears to me that the officers discuss the photographer and reporter before the one on the end fires on them (it looks to me like he's aiming at the camera, not the reporter, but you decide)

A vile assembly of fascists, antisemites, and authoritarians from around the world converging in Moscow. Absolutely revolting.

Meanwhile Elon Musk’s dad is at an oligarch-hosted fascist conference in Moscow, hanging out with Alexandr Dugin and George Galloway…

🧵 The BBC has long played a vital role in creating epistemic stability, a sense that facts are verifiable, disagreement has boundaries, and news has standards. That’s not trivial. It’s one reason the UK hasn’t yet experienced full epistemic collapse.

🔴 Zelenskyy: Ukraine had a deal with the previous US administration for anti-drone 20,000 missiles. But now the US has chosen to redirect them to the Middle East. 💬 "We counted on this project."

Should we follow Putin out of the ECHR? Or is it just another Brexit where we give up our rights in the vain pursuit of making migrants disappear?

A truly terrible development, for everyone. Things will not be ok in this country until liberal conservatism returns, but by God there isn't much sign of that.

So, to be clear, Musk has now admitted he funded a man he believes to be a pedophile to be president. And Trump has now admitted that he gave access to high level government secrets to a man he believes to be a big time drug addict. This should be *the* story on the Sunday shows tomorrow.

Most Brits think we should stay in the ECHR and protect our British-European values… Makes perfect sense. And also- 1) It protects us from Trump-like behaviour with his own citizens 2) It underpins our criminal data-sharing with Europe. Leave ECHR and we’d become a haven for criminals.
