they'd be doing us a favor given how said rockets tend to explode mid flight

But those aren't "Centrist positions"
Fair laws? A strong Constitution? A not tyrannical President?
That's everyone's position.
comment in response to
post
I have a problem with Centrist because I gave no fucking idea what they could be OTHER than Right wingers embarrassed to admit they're Right wingers or people who don't look things up.
Like for real give us some examples of "centrist policy / positions"?
comment in response to

But whinning about "optics" is a non-starter. The same shit Democrats say and then do nothing.
Not at all interested in optics that simply paralyze us into inaction.

There is no such thing as a "unified peaceful front"
Peaceful protest only work as a part of other forms of resistance. They alone are not resistance. They are but one part of the whole that absolutely involves violence.
I get it. This particular action isn't for you.
comment in response to
post
Yes, only the protestors have agency here. The cops are forced to shoot civilians. Poor smol beans.
comment in response to
post
The idea that protest must be non violent is poison. It is an unrealistic standard that no level of coordination will achieve.
Don't give credence to the idea they should.
Violent protest in response to government tyranny ARE JUSTIFIED.

Removal of context. Timeless Present!

I have heard people claim that vaseline in the beard along the seal can help but I have never done this. I advise caution.
comment in response to

Unfortunately the best seal will be obtained via shaving. Otherwise you will need to wear the mask very tight and constantly adjust to maintain a seal.
comment in response to

I don't advise this. But take the risk you are comfortable with but understand those risk.
Surgical removal of contact lenses. That's the risk.

Clothes that have been contaminated should be removed before entering a home bagged in a trash bag and washed separately from any other garments. You should run a cleaning cycle on the machine after before washing any other clothes in the machine.
comment in response to

If you have mask, clean them by getting three buckets fill the first with cold water, the second with cold and soap and the last with cold water.
Remove filters, and dip the mask in each container in order. Let them air dry. You can use big plastic trash cans for group cleaning.

Any protection is better than none however. Goggles can keep stuff out of your eyes and you should ABSOLUTELY wear eye protection at these events but the chemical irritant will irritate any skin or mucus membrane it touches.

You are also simply making an argument that if the general public wanted Jim Crow we should go along.
YOU are what's wrong with the Dems. No principles. No genuine beliefs. If a poll tells you to be a piece of shit then you will while finger wagging at others.
comment in response to

You have consultant brain. You seem to think people's political opinions are immutable facets of the landscape not subject to change.
Just like the failing Dem party you don't seem to realize that you can influence people's opinion by way of messaging and rhetoric
comment in response to
post
Yes. Because GOP has been allowed to shape the fucking narrative.
Peoples opinions of Immigration have swung back and forth as well. With it swinging negatively when Dems capitulate and swinging positively when they push back.
comment in response to
post
How the fuck could you be more "restrained" than not mentioning them and ignoring them?
Anymore restrained is just abandoning them. Period. And I won't vote for Dems who do that.
If we refuse to protect the vulnerable then let it burn for all I care.
comment in response to
post
No. We lose when spineless do nothing dems fold and let the GOP control the conversation. Which is EXACTLY what they did this past election. No one "overpromoted" trans rights.
Instead dems just let the GOP lie uncontested.

I think it also contributes to us doing shit that we did already that we know is a failed path. How many times have people suggested we do company towns or some shit?
Like my guy we tried this shit before. Please read a fucking history book!
comment in response to

And I think a kind of Timeless Present is actively cultivated in our society by bad actors because it removes context from everything.
I also believe this is what contributes to people seeing Critical theories as so radical. They are steeped in theories of the world that have bo history
comment in response to

Which is in many ways unavoidable. No satire can be pointed enough to avoid someone taking it on unironically. I many ways the only way to prevent this is by consistent and rigorous education.
In the most recent episode of Philosophers in Space you mentioned the concept of Timeless Present

Why would any minority or vulnerable member of society vote for them when every time they lose an election they immediately start scapegoating you and moving right.
Talking about the economy is not sufficient.
comment in response to
post
They do that already. They HAVE BEEN DOING THAT. They have been fanatical about it.
Look at the polls. They're eating shit still. Because that's simply not enough. I don't give a fuck about the economy if we have to sacrifice trans people.
comment in response to

Just like Republicans do right??
comment in response to

Yeah. I will abandon democrats if they abandon minorities and the vulnerable of society. I don't care about winning at such cost.

And how does this necessarily bring the whole idea of merit crashing down.

So it's a short step from there to realizing it's possible that there is a spectrums between slavery and silver spoon and that we all exist in that spectrum. So how much of your hard work is being functionally "zeroed" out by the system? How much is acceptable? Why is ANY acceptable.
comment in response to
post
One of the best ways I've stumbled upon explaining it to others is to point out that "hard work" has only contingent value. That if society decides it your objectively hard work will be meaningless. Everyone knows this, because we all know slaves existed.

I love your concept of Luck and make a point to bring it up in my Phil and PoliSci classes.
And you better believe I'm gonna find ways to bring it into my Grad classes this fall.

Hey SENATOR how about you obstruct some shit instead of finger wagging at us. Maybe start by not allowing unanimous consent which you have been doing for HUNDREDS OF POINTS OF BUSINESS since Trump took power so you guys can have long weekends.
Fuck off.

I cannot stress this enough: I will abandon Democrats before I abandon human rights.
I am unwilling to jettison the vulnerable and downtrodden to "win".
comment in response to
post
So how many minorities are you suggesting we jettison in order to win seats?
comment in response to
post
True. That's why I haven't engaged at all. That Biden was unfit for the job was old news well before this book came out. Don't need a tell all book that lines Tapper's pockets.
The real problem is Trump, his fascist admin and the do nothing Dems who are enabling him.
comment in response to

This is true of the entire ruling class. They are given extreme degrees of leniency with regard to job performance but a McDonalds employee can be fired on the spot because they didn't check the box on the cleaning sheet in the bathroom.
comment in response to

Have they considered approaching voters instead of Super PACs?
comment in response to

Furthermore I am simply uninterested in this "think politically" mantra that only ever seems to suggest we coddle the opposition.
As if the ENTIRE Dem messaging for my entire politically aware life hasn't been meekly prostrating before the GOP.
Fuck that. Call them what they are. Willful bigots
comment in response to

"What good does publicly shaming people do?"
ALOT actually. Public shame IS what kept these racist at bay for a while. Make no mistake many of the current racist bigots with which we now contend we racist bigots before. They've just been given license to be overt. Shameless one might say
comment in response to
post
They did. A better understanding of their behavior can be found in a simple but revealing statements they as a group routinely make:
"he's hurting the wrong people"
"I deserve social security"
"but I did it the right way"
The harsh truth is we are dealing with selfish bigots. Act accordingly
