Extraordinarily important point here & grateful to GEM for making it. One absolutely critical thing to add: The spike in media coverage didn't happen by magic. Democrats DID SOMETHING to make it happen. Valid criticism of media notwithstanding, if you want to be covered in news, make news.

Trump told West Point cadets at their graduation that he wouldn't be able to shake their hands, a tradition among US presidents, because he had urgent matters to deal with on China and Russia. This was him "dealing" with China and Russia moments later. He went golfing.
