One of the most under-covered corporate stories of the week. $LEVI $GS

This is what a rigged economy looks like: In the 1970s, CEOs made 27 times more than the average worker. In the 1980s, CEOs made 48 times more than the average worker. This decade, CEOs are making 354 times more than the average worker. That has got to change.

US Health Secretary, RFK Jr: "none of the 72 vaccines given to children have been tested against placebo " Fact check: Children are not given 72 vaccines. All approved child vaccines have been tested against placebo. credit: Dr. Neil Stone, Infectious Diseases doctor

Your periodic reminder that one way to think about privilege is: who's allowed to make mistakes?

Exactly. 🌊

Also, none of these things constitute a "crackdown on illegal immigration". A crackdown is "the severe or stern enforcement of regulations, laws, etc., as to root out abuses or correct a problem." Jailing or deporting innocent people at random is not a crackdown www.dictionary.com/browse/crack...

move slowly and build things

"We do not base our choice on the goodness of democracy, which may be doubtful, but solely on the evilness of a dictatorship, which is certain."

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die. Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

Let me say something very controversial, but true. There is no such thing as "clean energy" i.e. an energy source, which has no adverse impacts. The concept of "clean energy", is an Orwellian distortion of truth and reality. 1/🧵

This new work from @blakemurdoch.bsky.social is spot on. Denial of airborne transmission was the great crime (yes, crime) of the pandemic. It changed, and broke, everything healthydebate.ca/2025/03/topi...

As my friend @drshepherd2013.bsky.social says, asking why we need a National Weather Service when we have apps and the Weather Channel is like asking why we need potato farmers when we can buy fries at McDonalds.

I think the biggest lie being told right now is that one of the wealthiest countries in the world cannot afford to invest in science, education, and the environment.

Monday ice update - #Arctic sea ice extent is currently the *lowest* on record (JAXA data) • about 780,000 km² below the 2010s mean • about 1,450,000 km² below the 2000s mean • about 2,010,000 km² below the 1990s mean • about 2,370,000 km² below the 1980s mean Plots: zacklabe.com/arctic-sea-i... 🧪

My latest. As journalists and writers, we have a duty to use language that is accurate and describes our current reality. I’m no longer going to talk about DEI/Anti-DEI. Let’s be clear. We are facing racial purges and re-segregation. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

“Nothing is absolute. Everything changes, everything moves, everything revolves, everything flies and goes away.” ― Frida Kahlo

PITCH: An updated version of the curse of Cassandra where she's describing things that are happening now, in front of everyone, but still isn't believed.

i don’t even know if crime is the right word for the illegal destruction of USAID. it is an autocratic power grab and a direct attack on the sovereignty of the american people

🧡A huge moment for human rights🧡 The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has ruled for the first time that country's governments failng to properly address environmental pollution is a violation of the human right to life. www.clientearth.org/latest/press... (1/4)

Just in case anybody has doubts about what "Make America Healthy Again" really means, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. filed a trademark request to use the slogan to market supplements, essential oils & cryptocurrency. Scammity scam-scam scamming scammer. www.washingtonpost.com/health/2025/...

This map shows how much NIH funding goes to your state. I used the info on my state when I called officials to ask them to push back against the freeze. And if I can do it when my senators are Katie Britt and Tommy Tuberville...well, I mean... www.unitedformedicalresearch.org/nih-in-your-...

If you want to help close divides, I strongly recommend reading Dr. King's Letter from a Birmingham Jail. It inspires BUT challenges too www.africa.upenn.edu/Articles_Gen...

Well this is fun and I have no idea how it is going to be litigated www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-roo...

Oh noooooo, this is such sad news. This store is amazing. That's where I got my typewriter.

Everyone probably knows I posted a new essay yesterday. It's pretty raggedy, it should have just been a first draft, won't be ready til tomorrow, but I was in a rage so I dashed it off and posted it. open.substack.com/pub/mcfadden...

ABC, NBC & CBS dedicated about 16 minutes of airtime last night to the California wildfires without once mentioning climate change. Since the news failed do it's job, here's a short summary of the role of climate change and wildfire risk: www.noaa.gov/noaa-wildfir...

Also - please spend time deciding how you are going to engage with the content this administration and the complicit media are going to be putting out from here on out. Our nervous systems are precious resources and keeping them in a hyper-reactive state is BAD-real bad. We need to be intentional.

incredible -- the NYT ran fluff "what i hope to see in 2025" blurbs from CEOs and economists, and then this guy www.nytimes.com/2025/01/02/o...

Such a good #book - 'The Dawn of Everything' by Graeber and Wengrow - with pearls like this (page 290):

I saw an expert saying we learned nothing from the pandemic. I would differ. I learned that Public Health is resistant to new scientific evidence, is heavily politicized, and will cave under economic and public pressure . Also, the precautionary principle was and is largely ignored.

So, you may ask, why do I get so angry about the new liberal spin on RFK Jr, as in, "he gets some things right, so let's collaborate on those" or "we have to work with him because he has a huge following we need to reach"? Because I've seen this movie before. 1/

back in my day all accounts on the internet were real people

Please remember that President Carter appointed more minorities and women to the bench than all previous presidents combined. He was the first President to embrace the concept of bringing racial diversity to the federal bench. A key aspect of his legacy. www.washingtonpost.com/archive/poli...

That’s the descriptor you want in your obit

The way the right demonized Jimmy Carter should have clued people in about their inhumanity a long time ago. RIP.

Jimmy Carter stopped dams from being built & protected some of the most beautiful rivers in the world. A fishing guide who had worked with him on the Gunnison River, and who was not easily impressed, told me, "Jimmy Carter is a ballerina with a fly rod." www.gpb.org/news/2023/03...

Eric @erictopol.bsky.social has deep biomedical knowledge and remains a trusted science communicator, loyal to facts while others veer off. Importantly, he finds these interviews fun—I sure enjoyed talking to him about life, science, and what I’ve learned along the way.

Yup.
