Lagniappe: Out of nowhere, Mohammad was shouting "Habibi!" to someone in a vehicle passing us on Cesar Chavez. Moments later, said #habibi was at our table, offering us her homemade-from-scratch #labne. I was an oh, so happy adoptee in their cozy community with the megapolis buzzing around us. 4/4

Gilda Jackson's Facebook post on Election Day read, "Thank you Jesus for your favor and for giving America another undeserving chance! Please forgive us when we fail you, guide and direct us in all we do." Jesus misled her.

#Donizetti wrote #AnnaBolena for #Pasta. #Bellini composed #Norma and #Sonnambula for her. #Stendahl claimed, "she possesses the rare ability to be able to sing contralto as easily as she can sing soprano." See @parterrebox.bsky.social review of #Bartoli 's recording: parterre.com/2013/05/16/r...

Henry Pleasants' 1966 book "The Great Singers" had an illustration of Viardot's kRaZy ornaments for (I think) an aria from Gluck's "Orphée et Eurydice." I tried to find an image online. Best I could do (though piss poor) is at Google books. Hardly material for a Zoom "Sing Along with Pauline" event.

That fragrance. My favorite. At a #StudioPetrichor workshop several years ago in #Altadena, #ShawnMaestrettiPatterson made us an infusion of #trichosremalanatum and #yerbabuena. To recall it is to yearn for it.

This post o' yern wounds this tenor's heart. Baritone Will Parker told me of the time that some "jaded opera goers" invited him to their box for a performance. It had a bar in back. That's where they sat drinking, until someone would alert them the next aria was coming up. Now THAT wounded shur nuf!

From scouring the Met's online database, I reckon I first heard Plishka on 1/13/68 as the sacristan in Tosca. I would have been 11, listening to Met radio for two years by then. AMAZING, yes?!, that we got to see him in Live in HD transmissions! Thanks for honoring him here.

Recordings of #JoanSutherland and #MarilynHorne basically made my childhood and adolescence in the rural South endurable. With #belcanto as hub, I gradually-gingerly followed spokes outwardly in all stylistic directions. Met radio broadcasts helped. Ultimately, fleeing the South was required. Whew!

1st I've heard of them. My dad intro'd me to his 100s of 78rpms when I was 9 (1966). Soon, I became a regular listener to Met radio. Heard Corelli maybe 12 times? Saw him on tour in Memphis TN '75 (Romeo). Collected LPs '69-'77. Then, life changed. (long story) How'd these tapes come into your life?
