If your site is demoted or penalized because you’re scaling spammy content, you’re also hurting your chances to show up in AI search.

In other words, this data will be completely noisy and unreliable. For what it’s worth, I believe this is entirely by design, but maybe that’s just me. 😏 (Shout out to @brodieclark.bsky.social @glenngabe.bsky.social and Patrick Stox for the work they’ve done to report on GSC tracking!)

- AI Mode appears to be using the same position tracking method for its main list of links (on the upper-right) - AI Mode shows links in different places, which will lead to chaotic position tracking depending on where your citation appears

- there is no breakout report or filter for either AI surface. It’s all grouped together. - all AI Overview link positions are grouped together, so if you rank fifth on the list, you’ll still show up as #1 when AIO is at the top of the SERP

But... I still think it's worth keeping this in mind if your site is considering producing AI content with little human oversight. Not only is it risky from an SEO perspective but... your readers simply might not like it.

It's important to note that the responses might be slightly skewed, as most of my followers/readers are SEOs, digital marketers, publishers and/or site owners who might dislike AI content, compared to the average reader. (2/3)

Yes, not so much 'thin' as purely informational. If the content can be easily summarized and answered in an AIO, users don't need to click further.

I noticed the links point to embedded versions on your site and not the original article, am I missing something?
