Lynda Sayce plays a piece of lute music that was recently discovered in an archival document at the Museum Plantin-Moretus. Since the handwritten lute tablature was folded and reused as scrap paper, it's problaby the first time in 400 years that this music is heard.

i've been probably higher on Fetterman than most of this website-- he sucks but we can't do anything about it right now-- but if he had anything to do with this, i'm all the way out forever

Texas cops tried to find an abortion patient by using data from an automatic license plate reader (ALPR), which gave them access to over 83,000 cameras across the country. The dystopian future feminists have been warning about is already here. www.404media.co/a-texas-cop-...

For decades the US has been like Rumspringa for aspiring academics and scientists stuck in authoritarian regimes. They come here, get an education, get a job, live in a free country, and contribute to American science and advancements. Many quite literally become Americans. What loss. What waste.

Reading Sahil Lavingia's blog post about working for DOGE and it's just painful how little any of them bothered to learn anything about civic tech. Silicon Valley types thinking they're the first people to name problems and solve them sahillavingia.com/doge

these numbers are a decent indication that the whole "the left is ostracizing young men" thing is, if not entirely fictional, at least very overblown

CONCENTRATING them. Into CAMPS.

He’s obsessed with this cardigan. Whenever I wear it, he demands that I make room for him to be inside it too.

"all i wanted to do was pose with a chainsaw, fire thousands of people, redirect government money to my companies, starve kids overseas, make government services harder to access, and then brag about it. why are people being so mean about that"

There are a limited number of inside spots - like senator, for example - that give you power and authority to "fight trump" and if you occupy one and don't use it, or even use it the other way, this is actually a nontrivial bad act.

This is a one-night event but is viewable on a livestream (or for two weeks after the performance) and is a fundraiser for a UK trans charity.

Add a letter and ruin a movie The Princess Bridle

the U.S. press position is that user LeninGood1921 stands for the Democratic Party, but the words and actions of the Republican President cannot be taken as representing the Republican Party.

I want to offer a public apology to FDA head Marty Makary for calling him an ignorant piece of shit in a post last night. I just learned he is an islet transplant surgeon. Yes, the cells that produce insulin. I was wrong. He is not ignorant. This piece of shit knows *exactly* what he is doing.

Absolutely surreal to have lived through the Napster days and watched as the titans of industry moved hell and high water to lock down any possible chance that someone's song might get swapped online without giving the studios a cut and now those same people are just like "well we gotta steal music"

Today, I was denied access to seeing my constituent, Mr. Kilmar Abrego Garcia. If there is nothing to hide, cut the crap. Let his lawyer and I check on him.

Thinking of every academic who has had to apply for grants to cover the cost of requesting and licensing images for their books with zero assistance from a publisher

Toyota still has executives start by working the line specifically because understanding how a car is built is fundamental to quality and running a car company. This rush to code that is not fully understood shows how little companies value quality.

If we stop calling these “grants” and start calling them “contracts,” it’s clearer to people why this is such an abuse of power. This wasn’t a bunch of gifts. This was a bunch of binding contracts between researchers and the US govt for specific agreed upon projects.

Chopping up blood pressure pills for the cat, as one does on a Sunday evening.

This is a first for me: an actual, honest to cod COVID memorial in the park by my parents' house.

I gotta say, U.S. titans of industry are looking more powerless every day. They’re really letting this guy come out and freestyle our economy at whim?

This is really powerful.

Nostalgia in politics can work for more than one thing, it doesn't only have to be a guy saying "Don't you miss being racist" it could be a different guy saying "Remember when people had pensions"

Do iiit Deer it

Was just thinking of writing something about why panic over transgender athletes serves as the perfect on-ramp to racism, namely because a discussion about "inherent advantages" fuses dominant beliefs about biology, essentialism, and merit

the difference between Tester and Golden imo is that Tester didn’t really punch Dems while Golden does so performatively all the time. I got the sense that Tester basically liked the Democratic Party but thought they didn’t understand Montana

A prolific and fantastic comics writer, Peter David also wrote the episode of Babylon 5 where Ivanova gets put in charge of the gift shop and one of the products it sells (a teddy bear wearing a B5 jersey) gets ejected into space by an angry Sheridan. Damn, he will be missed.

Dear Mr. Clegg I have started a business, selling the contents of your house I knew when I launched I did not have legal access your house Without this access my company will not be profitable Others have told me I have a flawed business model, but I disagree Please advise how I should proceed

Bsky dot app is actually supposed to be pronounced bussky

An important signal to send that illegally appeasing Trump now could lead to future prosecution for bribery www.warren.senate.gov/newsroom/pre...

In other words, an Enabling Act.

Never take seriously those who ridicule low income people for having a smartphone or laptop. “If they’re so poor how did they buy an iPhone???” Because they’re trying to escape poverty, not the 1700s, genius. If you think basic tech access is unnecessary or a luxury, survive a month without it.

One thing I really enjoy doing is filing a request with my library asking them to buy my friends' books.

Are property rights a thing or aren't they? Capitalists are demanding it be both yes and no.

Exactly how many talks, policy papers, interviews, and reports do you think are out there warning about precisely this likelihood? Because I know it's a lot more than a few. "‘We Acted Too Quickly’: Over Half of Companies Regret AI-Driven Layoffs, Report Finds" www.techrepublic.com/article/news...

the most literal possible representation of the idea that the federal government is basically an occupying force to the people living in DC trying to mind their own business
