I am also on the ace spectrum and want to point out that some ace people enjoy sex (and some don't). It's the lack of sexual attraction towards others that's key, and I don't know what kind of therapy can change that. www.teenvogue.com/story/what-i...

I was referring to him saying that he'll have to go through life convincing people that not being attracted to anyone was "some sort of hoax," though it's true that even progressive ppl can be closed minded about asexuality.

Don't like the guy, but it's sad that he doesn't realize that if he changed the people he hangs out with he wouldn't have to justify his asexuality at all.

Yeah, both medium and wired paywalled it after publication. It was actually about text contrast, and it's on my own site without popups www.kevinmarks.com/unreadable-web

Working at a university, I also have a constant reminder that many if not most people go into medicine for the money and prestige (or at least, respectability). Those same people may not hold themselves to high standards without external pressure.

it takes a lot of spiritual reflection to correctly balance your professorial obligations as a role model, a cautionary tale, and a zoo exhibit

Then why would you write this in response to a post about stereotypes? "Group x is stereotyped the following way." "Here is one incident that reinforces that stereotype." I don't believe you actually understand how stereotypes are perpetuated or confirmation bias in general.

It’s important to understand as well that this is not an aberration. This is the globally dominant method of sea life extraction. ~2/3 of sustainably-certified seafood is captured by trawling, 93% of it by industrial fisheries. www.currentaffairs.org/news/sustain...

Anyway, tl;dr is that a Russian singing group that regularly tours with a show called "Songs of Victory," and whose leader thinks that the war in Ukraine is a continuation of a centuries-old conflict between Slavs and Anglo-Saxons, was allowed to perform a show called "Songs of Unity" at the UN.

I am pointing this out b/c I think to this day some don't understand how much a sort of pseudo-scientific slav supremacist thinking has become normalized in Russia. And what follows from it is that Ukraine has no agency because only Russia can rule this great Slavic nation.

It's also funny because if you rephrase it to take away the woo woo stuff, it's a logic that has been parroted by tankies and "realists." Culture and religion just becomes "spheres of influence" and "brotherly nations"

He also says that Ukraine is being used against Russia but that both are still on the "same cultural platform" and have the same religion and same "spiritual origin." Sounds deranged but this is the kind of thing I've been hearing from Russian relatives for the past 15 years.

that in the past few hundred years the "Anglo-Saxons" have been trying to ascertain their relationship with the "Slavic people," trying to break them apart in a quest for world domination. Nowhere in the conversation does it come up that Russia is the aggressor in the war.

If you go to the cited interview for that quote, it's actually more bizarre. The interviewer asks him why "things have changed so much in the past 2 years and now the US and the collective west are against us." (Ya, for real.) To which he replies arthor.ru/news/tpost/u...

"bodybuilding forums" immediately made me think of this wholesome meme that's been floating around for a few years
