Also I'm not going to pry here — my personal glass house is notoriously in shambles at the moment — but this is just another data point in "99% of dudes who went from anodyne Gen X moderates to enthusiastically fashy in the last five years are also gakked up on juice and/or maybe unneeded TRT."
the T formulation I use for transmasc HRT is more commonly used in TRT for cis men, and the "medium" starting dose sent my levels from functionally zero to Way Too High. some of these TRT guys (who start with non-zero levels and take the same or even higher dose) have to be crazy roided out!
Having elevated levels of testosterone from HRT doesn't cause erectile dysfunction, although it can suppress sperm production and testicular function (including making hormones) doesn't always return after stopping HRT.
A lot of juicing regimens include all kinds of other things besides testosterone, some of have anti-androgenic effects as odd as that seems. It's also common to deliberately cause dramatic fluctuations in hormone levels, which can do not-great things for emotional stability.
That metaphor is dumb, tools are just tools. There's nothing special about your master's tools. Breed antifa supersoldiers with the T-serum, who's going to stop you
Brinkley provided human testicles, from hanged convicts in Texas and Oklahoma, to clients who were willing to pay considerably more. He made sure they were only from white convicts, of course.
People would rather change their sexuality and have this epiphany that their sexuality changed like they discovered the davinci code or something rather than admit sexuality and gender isn't immutable
both glad he blocked me on Twitter back in the day (good for my mental health) but also very sad because his mind is so… fascinating
also if he’s “suddenly” into sex he is 100% going to reignite the “are traps gay” and “Roman towel boy” discourses because they were as cursed as he is
Do I not know what asexuality is? Is it ‘not being attracted to anyone’ or is it ‘not having sexual feelings.’ I was bummed when I first became attracted to a specific person. It was someone I disliked. Though I didn’t know what asexuality was, I wished for some version. It sounded so convenient!
“Everyone is likely to think that I did a huge, decades long prank about being asexual” is probably a sign one is living their life wrong, imho. Not that he’s prone to introspection, I guess.
3 relationships failing back-to-back caused me to become asexual. First one cheated, second one had clinically diagnosed anger management problems and wasn't taking her meds, and the third one was a narcissist who effectively gaslit the fuck out of me! I'm no longer attracted to anyone.
It’s not actually the treatments, I had Noah’s libido locked in a shed in my compound in the Mojave desert (evil science purposes, basically THE GOLDEN COMPASS) but there was a small earthquake a few weeks back and it escaped.
Don’t worry, I’ve still got Oren Cass’s good sense, David Brooks’ humility, and that painting of Stephen Miller that grows more compassionate every day locked up.
Medical conditions can sometimes influence sexual attraction but in that case you're getting treatment for the underlying medical condition, not like, your sexual attraction
you have to understand, these people have spent most of their lives believing in the "democracy" and "majestic will of the noble public" type liberal crap and watching public opinion reverse on everything due to propaganda is a concept they fundamentally fail to grasp
they're looking at opinion polling reversing on every cultural issue thanks to propagandists and people like elon musk, and rather question their previous beliefs, simply assume that "the majority" is adjusting correctly and that they must be wrong - a majority never is wrong, according to them
Legal immigration, he's pretty clear on that. That's not what birthright citizenship is for, though; it's to prevent a legally-distinct separate class of citizens, to make it clear we're all americans going forward. It's to preserve the future. insanely short sighted of him to go against it.
He reinvinted himself more than Madonaa. He started as a liberal Hawk. Drifted further left of center to the point where he claimed to support Bernie and/or Warren in 2020, and now he's targeting immigrants and Trans people because that's where he thinks things are moving
I didn't because I still think he makes good points but man he's getting weaker. And the yimby/abundance torch is more mainstream now, with Ezra Klein etc, and we just... don't need him as much as we used to
Don't need him. As much. As we used to.
Used to need him. Need him less now.
Still need him, just less now.
We NEED Matt Yglesias. Just not as much as we used to.
Yes
He's decided a larger chunk of his audience is still on Twitter so he's modifying his views to fall more into line with who he thinks will get him more money.
These are "I'm not like those close minded wokes" people and probably also "I am a intellectual titan, impervious to propaganda" people, so they're hanging out on Twitter and scrambling their brains
I don't understand why I should care if someone is a don't fuck unless I want to fuck them. Kind of like I don't understand why I should care if someone is gay unless I want to fuck them.
Maybe Noah met someone nice and realized Ace is a spectrum not a prohibition against all attraction. Or maybe he realized this after e-Stalking someone. Probably the e-Stalking.
I've been saying for a while now something is going on with him, either psychological, mid-life crises, etc...even talked about it yesterday with some people, but wow....
As for me, I live in Japan and make half of what I did in America, I also don't live in that great a city, but I'm far happier than I ever was in America.
Theres a lot of benefit from getting what you don't and shouldn't have to pay for. A friend of mine and his family moved to Tokyo from Boulder a few months ago and they couldn't be happier.
Money and a nice city can't make up for depression and self-loathing, which he confessed to on his old blog years ago. He's been troubled for a long time. If you read his writing for years, like I did, you could sense a lot of sadness and loneliness behind it.
I guess so. I have a melancholy personality and don't like a lot of things about myself, but still think life is OK and don't feel the need to blame women/minorities/immigrants for my problems
Yeah, I'm a melancholy person, too, and yeah, I agree with you about the minorities thing.
There are a number of trans people in the Japanese rural community where I live whom I've had to help with some things over the years, so I especially do not tolerate transphobia.
Got some bad news to share: I will now spend the rest of my life convincing people that the 12 seconds I spent not being attracted to anyone wasn't some sort of hoax
Hopefully its something not harmful to other people like drinking small amounts of his own piss everyday. Lord knows hes been doing that for years on the internet.
Perhaps he went to the masculintry guru guys camp that was featured on Carlson. Tanned his balls, wrestled with the guys and that lead to a little manly kissing.
If I were to be very generous I would assume that he was on medication that suppressed his sex drive, and then switched it out.
But calling it "anti-asexuality treatment" definitely sounds like asexuality is a problem. I fucking wish I were asexual, I have better things to be doing.
Congratulations! You've gained +1 Sexuality! Now immediately shove that shit back into a closet and never ever mention it again, because society is incredibly weird about sexuality in general!
Bro is gonna poison himself with some cocktail dreamed up by a software engineer who dropped out of Stanford after failing mandatory first semester humanities classes
Also I am willing to accept without evidence or explanation that Noah Smith didn’t get any for 12 years, in fact I would prefer a simple declarative statement
I honestly had no idea he was asexual; I thought a lot of the race science-adjacent stuff was all psychosexual. If he was already this weird about things while not horny, we are in for quite a ride.
Don't like the guy, but it's sad that he doesn't realize that if he changed the people he hangs out with he wouldn't have to justify his asexuality at all.
I think being asexual would be very difficult (I am on that spectrum but not completely so). Even having sex occasionally and enjoying it a bit opens up a lot more relationship options.
i realize now you were referring to friendships as well. i personally have never felt like i needed to justify it, but i could see how a man may have to since they are essentially stereotyped as sexual animals more often than not
that being said, being asexual ≠ not enjoying sex. for me (prob more-so demisexual), i hardly think about sex unless i happen to be sexually attracted to someone… which is rare, but not impossible
I mean that's fine. Maybe your sexuality isn't a barrier to marriage/kids (it doesn't have to be), or maybe it is and you don't care (which is great too).
But for a lot of people it is a barrier and they do care.
I am also on the ace spectrum and want to point out that some ace people enjoy sex (and some don't). It's the lack of sexual attraction towards others that's key, and I don't know what kind of therapy can change that. https://www.teenvogue.com/story/what-is-asexuality
I don't like him either, but I'm not sure it's right to assume that his problems with asexuality were to do with his friends. His sexuality could have conflicted with his aspirations to marry or have children, for example.
Part of what's heinous about conversion therapy stuff is that it's literally impossible for other orientations. But have desires about the kinds of desires you have isn't inherently a social pressure thing, so respecting autonomy means allowing choice of orientation, even by medication.
Asexuality is not well defined, exists on a spectrum, and like all sexuality can change throughout your life. If someone starts to experience something like asexuality while in a relationship that was previously sexual, it's practically expected that they will seek some sort of intervention for it!
I was referring to him saying that he'll have to go through life convincing people that not being attracted to anyone was "some sort of hoax," though it's true that even progressive ppl can be closed minded about asexuality.
Yes I think altogether this is a very strange announcement, and combined with his other stances, might well be part of a broader mental health deterioration
It depends on your gender and what kind of specialist is pathologizing your asexuality. It's unfortunately not uncommon to try to "fix" asexuality with hormones, adjusting psych meds, and medications that treat low libido (if you're a hetero-partnered woman, at least).
Many people are making jokes, but medicalizing asexuality is seriously detrimental. Finding the right balance of psych meds is difficult enough, and upsetting that balance for the purpose of conversion therapy can even be deadly. Plus delays in care for unrelated symptoms.
*I say depends on your gender because for a presumed straight cis woman, there's a bias to make the patient agreeable to more sex with men. I imagine it's different for men, especially if you aren't presumed straight.
So I don't know if you meant this seriously, but conversion therapy is still the go-to for ace people. Doctors constantly offer to look into what is wrong and help fix me. Medication, counseling, etc. Fluently Aspec on youtube has a piece that mentions it if I recall correctly.
As an ace person I’d love to know what the fuck he is talking about.
Even putting that aside there’s no “treatment” for asexuality. It’s just thing you happen to be
Who is this guy, a crusader for ace-ness? Why do people have to have a Cause? And why does it have to follow a strict definition and -why does it matter so much-?
🤔🤔💡Well, given that the reason the HHS Secretary is monitoring people who think differently is that it's part of his long promotion that they're all but subhuman and that they need to be "cured" one way or another😬, it is good for Mr. Smith to disclose that he's a closet ace.😜🙃
15 years ago or 15 years from now I'd concur, but given the present time, Noah Smith is actually doing some social good. Even though he might be as serious about his asexuality as Elon Musk is about his autism.🤷
from the perspective of someone who's abrosexual [fluid] and is on the ace spectrum (sometimes I'm purely ace, sometimes not) sounds like this person just had a movement in their own fluidity but is convinced they've been "treated" for it like it's a disease ????

Wait till this guy learns about edging.

As you can see he is not well in his head.
So I have some questions
The discourse is about to become unbalanced and horny.
Used to need him. Need him less now.
Still need him, just less now.
We NEED Matt Yglesias. Just not as much as we used to.
Yes
What is this person doing looking at porn?
Almost anything else, well, we'll see.
Boulder is very nice, but very expensive (I had friends who lived there and stayed with them).
Tokyo is a great city, but not for me (I prefer the country to the city, so I live in rural Japan).

Empathy: "you feel a hollow pit in your stomach that authenticity is too, a commodity"
I'm a little worried what that intervention might turn out to be.
Imma go back to bed
Nobody asked bro
if i didn't have the desire to seek sex taking up so many processor cycles I probably could have learned three languages and cured cancer.
But calling it "anti-asexuality treatment" definitely sounds like asexuality is a problem. I fucking wish I were asexual, I have better things to be doing.
In: sex
STOP RUNNING'
