The main concern that most liberals like Buttigieg have about Trump center around maintaining US unipolarity, and the extractive violence that this has always enabled for the benefit of the capitalist ruling class. They cant defeat fascism because they themselves are also fascist.

Hanlon’s Razor is not the best way to analyze fascists. While they certainly can be ignorant and incompetent (and often are both if these things) they are often perfectly aware of what they are doing. They know it’s wrong and do it anyway, and it’s because they’re fascists.

Stop using "felon" as a pejorative. I have known A LOT of people charged with or convicted of felonies who were good and decent people. When you have 4% of the world's population and 22% of the world's prisoners in a racialized police state, "felon" isn't predictive of anything, character-wise.
