More people should be talking about how the Mayor of Minneapolis’ chief political ally for 6-7 years - someone Mayor Frey consulted with on many issues and even appointed to lead city workgroups - is being investigated by the Department of Justice!

Seems like a pretty big deal that the incumbent second-term mayor couldn’t get endorsed by the DFL Senior Caucus. Guy probably took this one for granted. Ope

The Mayor posted a response to this. He talks about steady leadership but he tried to gut a gun violence prevention program for both North & South Minneapolis, Safety Ambassadors, hate crime prevention, transit safety, & crime control, tried to massively reduce community safety center pilots. 1/

It’s not aid. It is our portion of the taxes the state collects on the city’s behalf. It’s just robbing from cities.

With George Floyd Square’s future affecting the Ward 8 election, good time to read a good profile on GFS steward Marcia Howard sahanjournal.com/public-safet...

Wild to me that this story mentions “city council supporters” in the 3rd paragraph without *ever* mentioning “Mayor Jacob Frey” - whose administration is responsible for the program that went off the rails. I appreciate accountability journalism, but the Strib stops short of the head of the fish.

Thanks to @sdbaker.bsky.social for asking Strib reporter @deenawinter.bsky.social about not mentioning Mayor Frey in a recent investigation into Mpls violence interrupter program. www.startribune.com/minneapolis-... Wrote a letter to the Strib making the case, it wasn’t printed, here it is for you:

I’m so old, I have lived through four previous mayors—Don Fraser, Sharon Sayles Belton, RT Rybak and Betsy Hodges. NONE of them evaded responsibility by demonizing the city council. And none of them had the kind of PAC machine that Frey has. He has truly degraded Minneapolis politics.

This is so good! And so true! And so inspiring. How and why real life conversations and person-to-person politics is stronger than the internet and corporate media.

The problem with Frey and who he aligns with has been visible since his run against Hodges. He is petty and thin-skinned, and doesn’t know how to rein the impulses of his supporters in because he cannot/doesn’t want to do it himself.

In MN k-12 finance, there are 3 groups that pay for things: state taxpayers, local property taxpayers or kids. When the state mandates something but doesn’t provide any/enough state aid to pay for it & doesn’t let districts levy for it, kids pay for it.

This is Jacob Frey's kind of campaign style; it's what he and his supporters are doing.

A reminder that Senate approved Marco Rubio to be Secretary of State by a vote of 99-0. So done with Senate Democrats playing nice and bi-partisan with Trump nominees and then decrying the results. I can see why young people are disillusioned with Democrats rightnow.

KLOBUCHAR

Quit confirming his nominees, Sen. @amyklobuchar.com. Quit posting "I'm fighting back" and showing up (cough, uninvited) at MN resistance rallies while you flatter and placate Trump in DC. Your votes are public--it's not like we can't see what you're doing.

Yes, Public Opinion Still Matters … Even More Than Before talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/yes-p...

I won’t use the word moderate anymore to describe the conservative Democrats in my party. They aren’t in the middle. It’s subtle linguistic gaslighting to continue status quo policies instead of moving towards progressive new ideas.

As a former Detroit resident, I am so effing sick of the "Minneapolis will be the next Detroit" because 1) it's race-mongering & yes, I know Brenda is Black, but so is Clarence Thomas; 2) I still regularly visit Detroit to see family & the city just keeps getting better. Stop hating on Detroit.

Southwest Tire and Auto, near the corner of 50th and Xerxes comes up in the Fulton neighborhood---probably no surprise since owner has been flying "Thin Blue Line" flags, off and on since George Floyd was killed. I've never used them---and won't.

Last week, the Minneapolis Park Board decided to ignore their own 5-year-plan and years of community engagement to preserve a few parking spots in Uptown. What’s worse: two of the deciding votes are trying to oust progressives for spots on the City Council in 2025.

1/ This is incredibly disappointing. The mayor’s go-it-alone approach to governance continues to put our community’s safety and taxpayer dollars at risk. www.startribune.com/minneapolis-...

Relevant to right now: they’ve endorsed Josh Bassais in Ward 8

For months, Mayor Frey has touted that the City will not work with ICE. This is a great policy and we hope it’s true. But as with past promises from Mayor Frey, is it real? What happens if an MPD officer works with ICE? As of today…nothing. There is no accountability for cooperating with ICE.

If Jesus had focused more on kitchen table issues and less on unpopular outcasts like lepers and prostitutes, he might have won more support from white working-class Judeans.

I'm old--age 67. And at least four 30-something adults that grew up with my kids have transitioned. They're the same great human beings--but now they feel so much more at home in their bodies. Trans people have been among us forever. We just didn't know what it was. Thank God we do now.

Sad news: DFL "moderates" teaming up with Republicans to buy new city leaders who will finally fall in line with Jacob Frey.

@smith.senate.gov would save me. @amyklobuchar.com would complain about my capture, but then vote to confirm the prison guard to run the Department of the Interior.

@smith.senate.gov @amyklobuchar.com @ilhanmn.bsky.social if Sen Van Hollen can fly down to El Salvador to see a wrongfully imprisoned man… could you drive up to Sherburne County to see the Mn grad student being wrongfully held there? Free Doğukan Günaydın.

I wish @amyklobuchar.com met with the U oM students drained by ICE, and offered support.

if you said "anybody but frey" at all in the last 4 years, time to actually live up to those words
