Not the first time a car has made its way to the top of these steps. A few well-placed bollards would ensure it never happens again.

As metaphors go, this is very on the nose(cone).

Makes you wonder who's the host and who's the prey. (sorry)

I still hear liker/liké a lot and cringe every time I do. But yeah, no language is static, despite best efforts to the contrary.

Interesting. Haven't heard that, yet.

There's a group rate on plenary indulgences. I'm pretty sure I have a promo code somewhere from crowdscorchingdotcom

Apparently it's dress code. Long white robes are de rigeur. You can either buy/make your own, but the website says you can get the official ones at a discounted price at the merch counter if you can show you got your entry pass through ThicketMeister.

He's right. I Guess I Just Wasn't Made For These Times always hits hard.

Totally agree. I'm 57. I tell my colleagues in their 20s to enjoy it while it lasts. It's hard (for me) to accept being less cognitively sharp. A gerontocracy is a recipe for failure. Give all the power to teenage girls. They have the smarts and organizing skills and unblunted moral compasses.

I ran different figures through ChatGPT and it spits out answers in the range of Methane emissions being 1.15% to 1.7% of CO2 emissions. Not a precise answer, but a fairly narrow ballpark.

Sounds straightforward (I thought) but hard to find a reliable figure for CH4 GWP for 25 years. If I we use wikipedia's figure of 81.2 for 20 yrs and say 25, the CH4 emission rate is less that 1.5%of C02. (caveat - not a climate scientist, just a nerd on a dying planet with an internet connection)

If you don't opt out and you die in conditions that are optimal for donation, your family or next-of-kin still get to decide whether your organs will be donated or not. That's why it is essential to have a conversation with the people who could be in the position to make that decision on your behalf

It's a different Saint-Raphaël. It's an ad for a French drink. fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint-R...

I'm curious as to where this photo was taken. A precursory search gives several mentions of it being in Zurich, but I don't believe it because of the French signage and architecture.

In the (small French) town where I live I am never more than ten minutes walk from a public toilet. As a tea-drinking man in his late 50s, and all that entails, I can't begin to describe the peace of mind that this brings.

I'm going to stop posting screenshots because I strongly urge people to read the full article; here is a gift link I will just say that this is one of the most disturbing pieces I've ever read about AI, and I've read a lot of disturbing pieces about AI

I hear you. It's horrible. I've had dreams like that and woken up in a panic that can last a week.

Expulsés ? Lorsqu’on est intercepté dans les eaux internationales et retenu prisonnier, le verbe approprié serait plutôt ‘libérer’. On pourrait attendre mieux d’un journal qui s’appelle Libération.

I like the rational approach taken here, how he uses historically established facts to argue against OP's position and judging by the comments, so do many other people. Unfortunately logic, reason, and facts are pretty much powerless against racism. As the saying goes - haters gonna hate.
