Enjoying this, and this line is, y'know, true, but still a funny sentence to read "For Bierton, it [Nigeria's 2018 kit"] was “innovative and ahead of its time” as one of the first modern-era designs to directly reference the 90s" www.nytimes.com/athletic/642...

Idk if it's always been like this but I'm intrigued by the 'cinematic' video trend of a dizzying amount of colour-graded shots, for Instagram reels

Sincerely, I think it's a useful rule of thumb in general that if you find yourself going "y'all are gonna hate this" on social media, you're thinking way too much about people who annoy you on social media

Seen a couple of people do 'reintroduce myself' posts, so: - hello! - have been into football data since [long time] - have a blog that's been going since ~2019, and worked in the industry since a similar time - central defence is the best position on the pitch - sports are great, sports are fun

pre-orders help authors! pre-orders from your local bookstore help everyone! pre-order things. it helps!

Using this as a piggyback to a point - at this stage I think the goal of AI companies should be optimising for reduced environmental impact rather than better models. The models are really good and "god model is around the corner" is a crutch for not thinking about systems

Language model technology is still so funny. Context windows (sorta like memory) has gotten so big but they're still word prediction models so ways of making systems good seems to involve writing lots and lots of guidelines because the one thing they're *real* good at is reading

If you are even remotely interested in European men's football prospects/transfers, these guys are the best. One of one.

Since we went professional in 2019, our small team has toiled endlessly to turn SCOUTED into a sustainable, totally independent outlet. We’re closer than we’ve ever been - but we’re still not quite there. Join us on our journey to 1,000 paid subscribers. The Summer of SCOUTED has arrived.

I know a bunch of people on here like comics - would give this company a follow if you haven't already

I like it www.nytimes.com/athletic/642...

Glad to see that the legacy of the Statsbomb conf will still (granted it hasn't happened yet) be going strong under Hudl. And part of an even bigger day www.hudl.com/hudlproconfe...

[F1 spoilers] The McLarens in the first wheel-to-wheel moment of the season and it playing out like that is this driver pairing all over

I mean, FIFA would presumably say that this result demonstrates how European-skewed the 'global game' is, and that FIFA bringing these sides together - one of them being a continental champion - is exactly the point of FIFA

Hi there, a buddy of mine on the other site is facing some really hard times rn. Any help would be greatly appreciated! www.gofundme.com/f/7x2bfk-hel...

A collected year of football data industry blogging, including a piece only available in the PDF There are at least six good quality jokes

Football has some competing pressures. Player fitness, and every organisation's desire to get as much money/eyeballs/power as possible (which I read as partly coming from a fear about survival) Should FIFA/UEFA buy into Kings League/Baller League?

Really interesting chart (for nerds) in this Athletic piece on 'how Liverpool afford Wirtz'. Liverpool are obviously the focus of it, but the other Merseyside team is a fun outlier too www.nytimes.com/athletic/642...

When the rallies get beyond an unreturned serve in this Auger-Aliassime vs Fritz match, it's some really lovely tennis

This seems really cool www.niemanlab.org/2025/06/the-...

Thomas Frank showed at Brentford how he can play different phases and styles according to the circumstances. Being the head coach of Tottenham is his newest test, and some of the questions raised are valid, but there is no doubt about Frank’s coaching ability. ⬇️⬇️⬇️ www.nytimes.com/athletic/641...

*NEW* Nico Williams' low-G/A 24/25 season has prompted concern about his supposed stagnation and 'rawness'. For @scoutedftbl.com, I instead argue that Nico's much better than his stats say, and that his skillset 'scales up' perfectly. Subscribe and read! scoutedftbl.com/nico-william...

One of the weird things to my specific view on the 'is bluesky good' discourse is that a bunch of my original twitter peers are quiet/offline partly because they're successful within a spotlight-fierce industry and that's a bit of a drag on network effects

Couple of neat bluesky improvements that I know not everyone will know about: • the 'Quiet Posters' feed, posts from people you follow who don't post much • the setting to switch alt text reminders on • 'Hide post from me' setting on individual posts - basically a mute button for a post
