I hate to say it, but we're less than 6 months into this. It can get a lot worse.

Well, we do have a rule called New York times v. Sullivan to prevent just that, regarding public figures suing for libel. It is not so clear the current Supreme Court will uphold it.

You know, he's not an evil man. But he is not the man for this moment where we need Churchills with vision, ideas and courage, not Chamberlains. He needs to resign, at least his leadership position, and not run again,in 2028

Yep. That may take awhile! I do like my wines, and especially, my Barolos, with some age. They become so much more harmonious with some time if stored well.

P.s. And there seems to be no way for ordinary users to report it. Even the original account owners report difficulty gaining control again over their content. TikTok is shameful in this regard.

Cool. Something for another trip. As you might suspect, for Americans, driving in the UK on the other side of the road is a fear-inducing event. Not that I haven't done it. And I got a really good mnemonic tip from an Aussie. But I'd rather not. I don't even have a car at home!

On the whole it seems well balanced. It's also deep and mouth-coating. It's a beauty that I liked a lot. 14.5%, over $100

So, I have been to Bath. Enjoyed it. Lately I'm seeing that Somerset (which I believe is the broader region) has some interesting things I missed. I'd like to see Glastonbury, for instance on day. Is driving pretty much mandatory or can you make do with transit?

You should see TikTok. People download vids from posters like @aaronparnas.bsky.social or @meidastouch.com or @davidpakman.bsky.social & then open accounts republishing stolen content. And there is no order to it. You may get a vid from 6 months back, reposted as if new. TikTok does nothing.

Yes. (OK, wine journalist, but there were wine forums at the outset.) But later people got used to a "standard" created by companies like FB. Going back to basics confuses some. Bluesky requires a little more curating. There are rewards for doing so, but it's something to be learned, or re-learned.

An estate that doesn't get enough attention due to location. The old vines bottling (100% Baga, unlike the regular Tinto) can be especially super, ages well. The winery is off in a corner instead of being in the heart of Bairrada. Some wind up overlooking it as a result, alas.

Definitely keep to your health plans. Everyone has to do what is right for them.

one way...take great wines intended to age and do a=b comparisons after 30 years. Alas, I'm not that patient, nor willing to waste so much great wine.πBut I'd think that longer under cork must make some difference. Whether better or enough better to justify the wait, may vary & not be an easy answer.

Yeah, especially as I'm getting older, I get that π but while one anecdote is not the final answer, I wasn't convinced the experience was the same with the speed up. Aging faster may not always mean aging as gracefully.

Hmm. For tawny, might be better considering how rare they are and how pricey. Plus, they don't evolve very fast. for Vintage--I'd say no. Comparison once: The speed at which '94 Dow's VP aged in half compared to a full bottle was noticeably different, and kinda shocking. Wasn't to me an advantage

I think there is some trend. Here (I'm not sure this is accurate; memory dims),but my recollection: this is purchased fruit & they don't have large stores of old Tawny. They probably don't have a lot of quantity, so this spreads it around. It's very practical on several levels.Price also seems less.

Good question. One answer I think is that if all local law enforcement is withdrawn, it lets Trump argue that he needs to send in troops to handle it since no one else is.

Current pricing around $150-ish. For a fine 40, that's not so awful. #port #portugal #wine #tawny

Most will. It is how they think. But as I was on a bus I saw some news alert indicating that the majority of the national guard Trump mobilized in California hadn't reported to Los Angeles and weren't picking up the phone. If that's true, that's pretty big.

Yes, I understand that. My inquiry goes only to whether there is a legal obligation to obey unidentified officers with no warrant. I wasn't a criminal lawyer, but seems like a pretty hard case for the government to win if someone flips them off and rides away. Anyone with contrary authority, cite?

Heh. Yes, that is a fair point. Of course I was talking about legal obligations. But yeah, I guess these people might shoot at some point.

If no ids, warrants, faces, etc--why are you obligated to obey them? They've made no lawful assertion of authority, have they?

Reading "Nineteen Weeks" just now--it handles well-trod ground in a sense on the Battle of Britain, which I know well, but it does usefully spend some time reminding us how Hitler came to power and exploited crises. I also know that well, but the reminder is timely.

I know 2028 is an eternity in politics, but the issue now seems to be: does he decide not to run, or does he flip to the GOP, despite protestations to the contrary? I can't believe he'll run as a Democrat again. Flipping to the GOP probably guarantees a loss.

In a philosophical moment, I sometimes think this worked out well.We needed a shake up, options that weren't just controlled by a couple of companies. This isn't final yet.

Honestly, I don't think he'll lose any sleep. He knew what the right thing to do was the first time around. He chose Trump instead. Nothing will change. Nothing ever does with the GOP.

The pricing is hideous. I said that 25 years ago, but today it is almost shocking. It's just a rich guy's game now. I always thought of Insignia as a relative value--it's now at around $250-$300 for recents. Harlan...quadruple it.
You're thinking some stores bought a bunch of collectible Cabs?

He keeps saying he isn't flipping to the GOP. I'm saying it's 50/50. He's in trouble and may not run in '28, but he should keep the Sinema case in mind: abandoning your natural allies doesn't automatically gain you enough former enemies. It just makes you Dead On Arrival at the next election date.

So for example, go to my WINE LIST on my profile. Follow them all. You're only following 56 people. OR....just pin my list to your profile and go through "wine posts" as a feed w/out follow. Or use my starter packs, but the list is prob a better idea at this point.
You'll find you have more stuff.
