So far, that skater kid and the lady with an American flag have won the day. Hope it stays that way.

Hopefully his being at a UFC match tonight (and golfing earlier today with more golfing tomorrow) speeds up a court judgement or ten.

Posse Comitatus vs wussy comma potus.
comment in response to post
Trump himself, naturally, is golfing and watching some UFC this weekend. (according to his public schedule)
comment in response to post
At least the President is keeping on top of things this weekend by golfing and watching some UFC. (according to his public schedule)
comment in response to post
According to his public schedule he's been in Bedminster today with a side trip to some UFC fight in Newark tonight. Then back to Bedminster tomorrow.

? The only focus I've seen from the national GOP in the past several years is causing it.

Decent chance we can vote on something that would help by... Tuesday. Or a Tuesday after that.

The public disorder here has been carried out by ICE and the President. The shitshow has been performed almost entirely by ICE and the President. The authority I can think of higher than the President are the Congress (sometimes), SCOTUS (sometimes), and the people (always).
comment in response to post
In this case it is the right wing (ICE in this case) that is rioting - so I hope you are wrong.
comment in response to post
I like to believe it is an attempt to get MAGA supporters or ICE to use raw milk on themselves - because woke people told them not to, you see. MAGA love for raw milk is creepy. and yes it is also good advice.
comment in response to post
ICE is not provoking riots. ICE is rioting. Don't give them an inch. Not one inch.

Turkey is called an ethnostate quite a lot lately, really. And I honestly think it is pretty fair to group Israel, Turkey or Apartheid era South Africa as ethnostates. But I don't think that's what she was going for.

We might need a new word for really naive cynicism.

Think it is even sillier with a suppressor, but maybe I'm just not saying "tactical" enough day to day. Tactical! tacticalractical..... tactical.
comment in response to post
It says it has a suppressor (and looks like it does)? I thought that was kind of an interchangeable term with silencer, but don't know guns that well.
comment in response to post
The silencer is the top tube-y bit and the grenade launcher is the tube-y bit below that, yeah?

smash and grab vs heist, if you prefer.
comment in response to post
Does it? It seems like with the intent you would just take the info you had some intent for. With zero intent, I could easily see a buffoon taking way *more* data - even if some it would be the data equivalent of stealing packing peanuts.

Yglesias often reads like an exhibitionist/masochist. but not the fun kind.

Just had the thought "Elonuel Goldstein" enter my head. So I'm going to log off for a while.

As Emanuel Goldsteins go, they could have done worse in the casting.
comment in response to post
Definitely. But I have lot *more* suspicions the other way round.

Even bleaker, Biden was one of exactly two Presidents to ever delay a weapons shipment to Israel. He got less than zero for doing so.
comment in response to post
Could be simpler. Democrats have opinions and thoughts they will talk about. Republicans no longer do, or not that they'll talk about in public anyway. Makes for a dull story in comparison.

With dad, I think it was more of a gonna-squeeze-every-perk-out-of-this AAA membership kind of thing. Think we had like 8 copies of a triptik (different years) for the OKC to Grandma's route at one point.

Vivaa, viiivaaa, Tom Nichoooolls?
comment in response to post
Having a surprisingly introspective think about whether I "understand the interstate system".
comment in response to post
I do remember being very confused about what a triptych was after using a triptik though.

Occasionally think about Trump blaming Musk for any economic troubles, deporting or arresting him, and seizing his assets. Then there would be a "musk day" or something where Trump sends out checks to voters for their "share" of Musks money. Maybe 10 bucks each. And it gives me the creeps.
comment in response to post
Wellll he did chicken out on a lot of debates. and against China. and the wall thing. and Ukraine in general. and with the press in general.. and elections and whenever someone calls him a chicken... and most of the time he runs into heavy opposition at all. But you gotta have the opposition
comment in response to post
Specifically, I'd say he wants an Elric. Maybe the God Emperor, but that feels too "cathedral" and neither white or edgy enough for that guy.
comment in response to post
I like you man, but I think you have this entirely backward. "ask Donal Trump" is the poison that killed the GOP. (and before someone says "but they are in power", yes I know)
comment in response to post
Arguably how the social ills, not the goods, are applied might be more central for a demagogue in the GOP. After all, if you are trying to corrupt Conservatism, "the government is here to help you" is a harder sell than "the government will hurt you less".
comment in response to post
To give the benefit of the doubt, will assume this is "take back" in the sense of what you do if you find a human finger in a bag of frozen lima beans. But I'd only take cash, not store credit. Otherwise the store can just keep the finger.

Just realizing myself how much I like having canines. (had no idea until today there were people who want to disguise canine teeth)

There's an ackchully here for the Valeyard, but more seriously 10 also had his eternal punishments for the Family of Blood. Eternity in a mirror or as a scarecrow? Harsh.

If it happens enough, they become the bonus person. For me, I call it the Postlethwaite because of Pete Postlethwaite. He's in tons of stuff, and a lot of it not great, and almost never a big roll. But every time he shows up my brain says "Postlethwaite bonus!"

Are people less informed about smurfing these days because of smurfing? Vice versa? Both? Gotta love English, for making a sentence like that work.

Fighting strong urge to whittle.

I'd give slightly better than even. If Trump needed a popularity bump, Musk is about as good a sacrifice as I can imagine.

There's the starting pay rates at Buc-ees. And before anyone sez "It's a cult!", yes of course it is. A cult about a beaver.
