friend of mine just sent me this, apparently someone is describing what those "receivers" are expected to do for gaza fundraiser accounts. they are wiring the funds in "rounds" under $1500 because there's a "problem" receiving a wire of more than $2000.
jesus christ.

Even worse to post about it
... but yeah, less "Bitcoin is designed for fraud" and more "There are reasons these transactions are so hard to do 'normally'..."
monero would work better and is what the drug people actually use
But since its reached commerialization it's not the default like it was during the "Bitcoin is for buying heroin" days, so you're correct that these type of people wouldn't take those precautions
Zcash and Penumbra are basically the only privacy coins at present. And even they have to be used with some care.
Bitcoin has an entirely transparent ledger. It is the most heavily surveilled currency on the planet, and the record is permanent.
There are privacy-preserving cryptocurrencies, and even the best of those have lots of possible failure modes.
That being said, most people are more likely to use kyc and commercial products for this, which would put them in the same boat as money wires.
The belief that there are “ways to use bitcoin” that preserve your privacy is harmful, because it can entrap the unwary. It comes down to information leakage, and any time you touch bitcoin, what is leaked to your counterparty should be considered public information.
That being said, wouldn't be surprised if the ppl handling that do it with KYC accounts, which defeat the purpose
*SCREAMS*
Of course, this is very wrong.
Doesn’t make the rest of this wise
Now SARs are my friends
That's a follow.
I have no doubt that a good chunk of this money gets into the pockets of IDF officers.
The same people who were screaming about how banks are amoral capitalism that only cares about money were also the ones telling everyone that they wouldn't come after you for writing a few (10) thousands in bad checks.
Those two points don't have an overlap.
He said he would give me a signed doc stating he would repay me after he secured his loan
Me: help you hide a financial liability from a lender? 🤔
“goddamnit man, we don’t pay you that gs11 salary so you can whine all day”
lol.
They could've went after all of them for felony check fraud.
I get wanting to help but this is all so sketchy.
W.T. ACTUAL F.?!
Some FIs will just block all int'l wires over the threshold rather than deal with the reporting requirements (especially if they're non-customers or non-locals).
Just… I feel like yall needed to see this.
OH MY GOD I JUST CAN'T WITH THIS SHIT.
Here are some links:
I wrote this one back in 2023: https://www.fdd.org/analysis/2023/11/29/terrorist-use-of-crowdfunding/

That alone might make me think twice about whether this is above board.
AUSA "have I got some news for you..."
go ahead, threaten me with a SLAPP suit. https://bsky.app/profile/sky.skymarchini.net/post/3lqbutucezc2y
I appears to be to shield GFM from liability, not the receiver. GFM isn't distributing the funds, and they don't seem to audit that bit for receivers, just record receivers' answers.
Anyways. Just a fun fact about regulations.
I'm very poor anyway so i can't often donate to my own nonprofits I support in any way but time, but again - thank you for the great explanation. <3

(i ask, for no particular reason)
And the *reason* so many bad guys ultimately go to jail for financial crimes, not for anything else, is that financial crimes are *so easy for prosecution to prove*.
(Not implying everyone involved here is a bad guy--in fact, I fully believe most are acting from the best of intentions!)
Although the “Mauritania scheme” is also possible.
Rather unlikely that Palestinians would see any of the funds, considering that I’ve seen so many >legit< fundraisers by people in/from Palestine with none of this
Gotta love English, for making a sentence like that work.
Fair
And probably receive fines of a quarter million dollar per violation.
Are there people stupid enough to do this? Yes, of course there are.
Please don't be one of them.
When it was pointed out to molly, she doubled down on it being fine and got combative. Fair game to mock at that point.
Oscar, this post's subject, responded by thanking someone for pointing it out and taking their posts down.
so no, it's not like that person was not aware there's a problem.
Some ppl involved in this have legit professional credentials.
THERE IS WORK WITHIN THEIR PURVIEW WHICH LEADS TO RELIEF ORGS GETTING IN.
The right would have decades-old thinktanks facilitating these goals.

OH MY FUCKING GOD.
If you transfer > $10k to the same account in a bunch of < $10k increments quickly, the feds could charge you.
Either way, setting yourself up as a node between an unknown depositor and someone you’ve never met is not seen as legitimate behaviour
that said, cherub mommunist person is sus as shit. idk what her deal is, but there's no way by now she doesn't know more than she's telling the saps she's getting to "receive" for her
OTOH Trump pardoned the most prolific drug dealer in history who tried to murder two people

$1500 seems like a weird amount to specify.
Anyway, this feels pretty sketch.
Who suggested that?
Oh god.
Hope the DOJ is too overwhelmed with resignations to worry about it. Otherwise a lot of good people are fixing to get got.
