here, have a fun ongoing thread about why we should all care about climate change and air pollution and disability justice and universal healthcare and stopping the spread of diseases such as covid, which are spiking rates of chronic illnesses such as MCAS.

Ghouls. I said at the time this would happen. It was obvious that it would happen. But it’s hard to “prove.” In this case it took three years. And by the time the proof was in, it was irrelevant. The dead are still just dead and our current leaders openly scheme to kill more.

As many of us people who study or work in tech tried to tell y’all, move fast & break things was always about POWER, not progress.

some trade history: "When news of the [Haitian] slave revolt reached the United States, the first impulse of the Federalist administration was to aid the white planters....George Washington's government advanced French whites...$726,000 drawn against America's revolutionary war debt to France..."

Matt Yglesias is a white nationalist; "popularism" is white nationalism for liberals who don't want to be shut out of the fascist state

I will never understand the objection to masks in healthcare. It’s where the sickest people are, and where the strongest & most treatment resistant bugs thrive. People can’t “just stay home” when they need healthcare, and no one should be forced to choose between care & covid

100%, even if you voted for Harris. If you’re running around maskless and think COVID ended when you got your vaccine in 2021, you are absolutely sharing the blame in bringing us RFK and other anti-public health nonsense.

If you engaged in COVID denialism the last few years by pretending the pandemic’s over, it’s still 2019, & you don’t have to mask, even on planes—then you bear some responsibility for having dangerous anti-vax people like RFK Jr. in charge of our health agencies. #HardTruths

BREAKING: John Morales just went on air in South Florida and told the truth: hurricane forecasting models are underfunded and outdated. Translation: The U.S. government cut the budget so deep, even seasoned meteorologists can’t track deadly storms. You’re not safe. And they do. Not. Care.

This group exists for the specific purpose of trying to get Dems to throw trans people under the bus.

From the task force op in Minneapolis yesterday—an officer with the Brooklyn Park police department (badge 232) and the New Hope police department (badge 100). If you recognize either of these men or have a personnel list from these depts in your possession, please shoot us a message. Thanks!

Why aren't there daily questions asking: 'why is your administration so white and male?' - [this is rhetorical - no need to answer]

In @atrupar.com's Public Notice today, I wrote about how tariffs will hit the beauty industry HARD, why that's about to make being a woman WAY MORE expensive, and which women will bear the brunt of the cost. (Spoiler: It's Black women. This is #TheDoubleTax.) #bluesky #blacksky #news #politics

the US genocide on Native Americans is ongoing

THE ACCURACY

I really, really appreciated this piece by @mskellymhayes.bsky.social on ways forward for political organising in the current overwhelming moment where anything we do feels like not enough. organizingmythoughts.org/from-aspirat...

So...Applebee's coupons for respectability to be used in the manner of your choosing instead of a restorative apology that folds and spends riiiiiiight as you're making college admissions restrictive, banning actual history, and allowing private equity to eat all housing. Got it.

“The group estimated that reducing the operating budget by $900 million, as the Trump administration wants to do, would require closing 350 of the 433 parks, monuments, historic sites and other locations overseen by the Park Service… we would be witnessing the dismantling of a century-old system”

"Universities quietly negotiating--" because that worked so well for the biglaw firms? 🙃 Schools should be smarter than this

I urge everyone to read Unbreaking’s new page on everything the govt is doing to destroy & diminish medical research funding. It’s the best thing I’ve read on this topic: @lizneeley.bsky.social & co have such done an incredible job. unbreaking.org/issues/medic...

I say this delicately, knowing that it is the only option for some folks, but mutual aid becoming a hyper-individualistic online thing instead of being centered around local communities and organizations has really left a system open to fraud and abuse and it kinda sucks.

Look, I know that this can't (and shouldn't) be done with everything, but increasingly I feel like the progressive end of the legal profession is just "no you can't do that" defeatism instead of working on creative ways to help activists and organizers do shit legally.

“What makes dysfunction so dangerous is that we might simply learn to live with it. But understanding hypernormalization gives us language – and permission – to recognize when systems are failing, and clarifies the risk of not taking action when we can.”

Notice how they gutted everything that had to do with statistics and data first, so it’ll take a long time to prove this callous policy killed women and babies.

The Vietnam War was 20 years long. By 1973, almost 60,000 Americans had been killed and over 3 million Americans had been stationed there. And the US was losing most of the time. This context is important for evaluating why Americans turned against the war. It was self preservation, not empathy.

This is also part of the refusal of msm political commentators to ignore the significance and agency of Black voters. It was Black primary voters in SC who got behind Biden. Because Black voters know the white electorate better than those commentators & knew Biden could best beat Trump in 2020.

So ok, here’s the deal. We’ve been skating on the fact that we had a massive summer wave last year, one of the biggest we’ve *ever* had. Since then, no new strain really took over, so people who got sick last year have been coasting on limited immunity to that strain. That’s about to change.

You are not going to hear that we are in a surge. The news will absolutely suppress the true impact until it cannot. You need to make the decision to do the right thing without prompting. You can consider this March 2020. Be the person you were then.

I know y’all don’t care about this but there’s a pretty fast spreading Covid variant going around and there’s gonna be a summer surge whether you like it or not. You can, of course, avoid this by getting vaccinated and wearing a mask but you won’t do that.

Democratic voters issued a massive rebuke of their own party last year by just refusing to show up on election day & instead of a major shakeup its leaders are spending big on consultants to find a Youtube salesman that can help a small group of septuagenarians no one likes cling to power.

Four top partners at Paul Weiss announced they are leaving the law firm, a major blow following its decision to cut a deal with President Trump to head off an executive order that would have restricted its business.
