I got to take advantage of being in North America by attending a live show for a YouTuber I like: CJ the X. We got to witness a live performance of a video essay, with Q+A. I went because I had a feeling he would have things to say that would relate to my work and I was not disappointed.

The only way the US can compete with China in manufacturing without taking multiple generations is if they tank labour costs in their own borders by manufacturing an economic collapse that will spike the demand for low wage jobs. Indeed, it seems that’s exactly what they’re doing.

I make things so complicated for myself sometimes. For example, I agreed to give a talk next week for a lab mate. She wants an abstract for the talk and I’m thinking “how do I make this talk sound interesting enough to the right people and also boring for the wrong people?”

I just recently moved my Zotero library (think: “personal academic paper library”) to my personal PC which is acting as a web server. Now, not only do I not have to pay Zotero money for cloud hosting, I also have the peace of mind of knowing my reading list is on my own hardware.
