Large purchases are definitely on hold until the picture becomes clearer. There will be wide ranging impacts to every industry due to cuts and tariffs.

It appears the people being let go are newer at these positions, thus not deemed necessary. However, these people become the leaders in the future. As others retire or move on, there will be no one competent at those positions to replace them.

Both are great, I went to trade school and have done quite well. I would however like to get a degree now later in life. They are not mutually exclusive, they can complement each other.
