With maybe the exception of science fiction, genres rarely come out of the blue. Beyond marketing, genres are also helpful for organizing certain tropes together as well as popularizing certain tropes. You see this with Hamlet being a prototype to a lot of gothic literature.

Obviously, if you write a character who is based off of yourself, it shouldn't be a fake, narcissistic, idealized version of you it should be the real you. To get this right, you will probably need to ask people what they think of you..maybe even anonymously if possible, lol.
