As with Chuck Berry and Stevie Wonder it's a shame that Bobbie Gentry's worst track is her only No. 1. Perhaps (choosing my words carefully because it's a great podcast) the top of the charts has never always been the best place to look at the musical zeitgeist.

Spoiler. Unless The Archies or R*lf H*rris score heavily we're looking at the best 60s single being by an artist who'd been recording since 1923. I've no problem with Satchmo but it's interestign that in the decade of youth revolution he comes out on top.

Never heard of Sacha Distel? He had the UK hit with Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head. Cheesy singer but a great jazz guitarist.

Doctor: You're obviously very depressed. You need to drag yourself out of it by going to see the great comedian Pagliacci who is playing tonight. Patient: But doctor, I *am* Pagliacci.

He also originated the line "Infamy! Infamy! They've all got it in for me" which Carry On later borrowed. A legend.

This appears to cut against the Times poll saying that youngsters want a dictator to take charge.

Hi Paul, Just a friendly suggestion: before you continue spamming Bluesky with opinions dressed up as facts please read some proper history books instead of a few self-confirming talkboards. You might even enjoy it.

The post mentioned Allied Forces, which included the Red Army. So not lying.

I think it may be my advanced age but FB's idea of serving up content aimed at meaningful interactions now seems to be nostalgia groups where bigots complain how the presence of immigrants has caused all the pie and mash shops to close down.
