I’m not sure if you can overdose on schadenfreude but we’re about to find out

that's right

FACT: The more people choosing to walk, bike & take public transit to get around cities, the better cities work for EVERYONE, including DRIVERS. Anyone claiming that less car dependency is a “war on cars” doesn’t understand how cities (or geometry) work. It’s time we tell #TheTruthAboutTraffic.

Let’s be clear — the “War on the Car” populist narrative attacking any attempts, however small, to add more CHOICE in how to get around cities, has always been bullshit. But there absolutely should be a “war” on car DEPENDENCY. How can MORE CHOICE, with proven benefits for all, possibly be bad?

If you don’t see the fascism, it’s because you don’t want to see it, or because you’re ok with it.

For Handmaid’s Tale fans.

There are 2 previous historical cases of countries destroying their science and universities, crippling them for decades: Lysenkoism in the USSR and Nazi Germany. The Trump administration will be the 3rd. It's not just budgets but research, institutions, expertise, and training the next generation.

If the substance of the report is the same regardless of the data behind it, that should tell you something www.nytimes.com/2025/05/29/w...

This sounds suspiciously like the JD Vance bullshit wine story.

Don't look away.

Friday's EU tariff announcement lasted nearly the whole weekend, or 18% of a Scaramucci.

The cuts to SNAP benefits are galling. In Doylestown we're having traffic issues from the increasing lines outside food banks. It's the same across Bucks as food insecurity increases. This isn't a statement to score political points. This is what's happening to people in Fitzpatrick's district.

Parking in the middle of the street: Cool or not cool? Discuss.

TIL: When the Original Star Wars Trilogy finally aired on Chilean TV in 2003, the network spliced custom beer commercials into the films themselves to avoid cutting to commercial breaks. these additional scenes turn Obi-Wan & Luke into raging space alcoholics who are constantly shotgunning booze.

A giant banner of Trump is now ominously hanging at the front of the Dept. of Agriculture. It's not the kind of thing American presidents do. It's more in line with what you typically see in places like North Korea -- and it's the latest sign that America might be sliding into autocracy. #Velshi

Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev was to address the United Nations on September 20, 1959. He was greeted by protesters holding placards saying “Freedom for Ukraine” Photo by Helmut Kretz.

Random reminder that banning members of Congress from trading stock is a total no brainer. They can use privileged information to make money on the stock market, while they’re supposed to be working for you. Make no mistake — it’s legalized corruption.

thank you elon musk and donald trump for destroying this country’s ability to generate wealth for the future. we salute you. MAGA.

The president has covered the Oval Office in gold, is planning a massive military parade for his birthday, and is now accepting $400,000,000 luxury planes from foreign powers as personal presents. What the fuck are we doing here?

This isn't true. I'm the person who ran the experiments this is BSing about. When search results are worse, people attempt fewer tasks. When they're better they attempt more.

The Greeks—who have been very unfair to me and have been TAKING ADVANTAGE of Troy with regards to Black Sea and very beautiful Helen —now they’re saying, Priam is the greatest, there’s never been a better king than Priam. And that’s why I’m accepting the big beautiful horse

for the past few months the us has been ruled by a lawless triumvirate--a mobster (trump), a plutocrat (musk), and a commissar (miller)--haphazardly implementing, respectively, a great leap backward (tariffs), a kleptocratic shock therapy (doge), and a gestapo-spearheaded ethnic cleansing (ice)...

I hear the Chicago pope is preparing an encyclical on how single stair buildings bring us closer to the kingdom of heaven. Also argues that mandatory parking minimums and large minimum lot sizes “were invented by Satan to turn our cities into Hell.” Huge if true.

Man, this is a pretty fucking gross move from Amazon, huh? Good on @bookshop.org for not mincing words, though:

Any moderately competent historian could have told you this is always where it was going to lead

ICYMI: Georgetown Law students made a 853-row spreadsheet of Trump-caving firms. It drew national headlines. Recruiters noticed some talent looked elsewhere. Firms lobbied to change their designation. An organizer tells @www.AllRiseNews.com the background www.allrisenews.com/p/skadden-st...

Costco is a really popular subject for business-success case studies but I feel like business guys kinda lose interest when the upshot of the study is like "just operate with scrupulous integrity in all facets and levels of your business for four decades" and not some easy-to-fix gimmick

The rollout of Direct File was a genuine unequivocally good thing (unless you’re a huge Intuit shareholder or something), and I know a few people who worked very hard on it.

Historians are calling the SAVE Act the "most extraordinary attack on voting rights in American history."

BREAKING: The House approves a budget that could dramatically cut Medicaid. Lawmakers voted 216-214 to pass a budget blueprint that calls for $880 billion in Medicaid cuts over the next decade.

Trump says he’ll use revenue from tariffs to “offset” more big tax cuts. Those tax cuts will disproportionately benefit wealthy Americans and big corporations. But revenue raised from tariffs will be coming disproportionately from average working people. See how this works?

Read this thread! “Trump has had the same impact on economic uncertainty as a global pandemic.”

This exciting resolution from Rutgers University Senate is exactly the kind of model I think higher ed needs: a mutual defense pact of, in this case, Big 10 schools. They call for member institutions to create a joint defense fund and make resources available to any member institution under attack.
