Indeed. Think the biggest thing for Aus is that they won’t want their aging attack to repeatedly have to play on 450 par pitches. So maybe a limit to how flat they go

Yeah, indeed - think I would generally go quality over variety if that’s the choice though

Fair enough! I wouldn’t but I suppose it just depends on how good one thinks Bashir is.
comment in response to post
Yeah, does depend on your options. But England could well have, say, Atkinson-Carse-Archer as a starting three - and then the potential question is would you prefer Wood or Bashir as your fourth frontline bowler? Injuries may make most of this academic though ofc

I don’t think samey is *necessarily* that much of an issue tbh. It’s often used as a cover for ‘none of England’s seamers is actually that good in these conditions’ - if you had four Cumminses you wouldn’t be too worried about a lack of variety

Yeah, I get the theory. It’s just that Lyon also has exceptional control and consistency which Bash doesn’t yet - not sure he’s really going to be much of a threat. But I wouldn’t pick Leach either tbh.

Not sure I really agree on Bashir but we’ll see where this summer takes him…

Yeah, I’d put it more as ‘not impossible’ than ‘likely’ at the moment. But it could just end up being a pragmatic thing: if you don’t have a great spinner and the pitches don’t have much to offer, it does start to be a bit of a waste of a spot
comment in response to post
Think it’s not impossible that we play four frontline quicks in Aus, pitches had very little in them even for Lyon this summer. Plus it means you can pick Wood/Archer without worrying about putting too many overs into them
comment in response to post
Overall I reckon an extra frontline bowler is going to make a lot more difference to them than an extra 30-40 runs from the tail, especially if pitches stay flattish. With Bumrah not playing all the Tests, and Prasidh not too reliable, don’t think they can afford to skimp on bowling

I think he could maybe be a useful bowler given time, but he’s just not bowled enough. Only 63 FC wickets: India didn’t back his bowling at all in Aus and he was the sixth bowler in both Lions games. So would leave them with less bowling than they currently have
comment in response to post
Not sure they should tbh. They’re not really lacking in batting and their bowling drops off so much after Bumrah: would bring in Kuldeep I think

Think ‘B A Stokes’ is the natural answer to that one

You can see why they thought AI would be a fun villain-adjacent, but it didn’t really work to then have it exist almost exclusively off screen. Thought the middle third was very enjoyable

I had similar opinions about TFD and AC to you but really quite enjoyed TPS; has a fair bit more substance and joy

they are very good but filling/bun ratio is a bit off for eating on the go I find. could do with a knife for best consumption

thought it ticked the ‘good laugh’ box much more successfully than the last few, an actually fun watch

For the first half I assumed the Helen plotline was going to somehow put a totally different spin on the rest of the action. Was pretty underwhelmed to find out that the dreary conversations on balconies were presumed to be satisfying enough by themselves

Totally agree on reform. Even things like running - we did cross country a couple of times a term only, but obviously you need to be running a lot more regularly to actually get good at it. I run all the time now but a bit of a failure that I didn’t discover it at school

just to say that if you’ve done your double knot right you should be able to undo it with no extra steps compared to a single, which also blew my mind upon discovering a few years ago

Tom Banton was in a very similar place to Bethell five years ago - but Bethell looks a lot more likely to play for England in the near future. Are England missing a trick generally by getting too excited about raw talent, rather than the players who are actually now delivering on their talent?

absurd that it wasn’t nominated for best song. there are two others from the film on the list that I have zero recollection of

I don’t mind so much about England giving up on domestic 50-over - but if they’re not going to play many ODIs or even any Lions games, do they genuinely think this is going to work out for them? Lots of talent but hard to see how young players are ever going to learn the format

Other sides have one decent spinner rather than four…! Can’t see anyone beating India on pitches like this

How much value does Nathan think there is in Ireland playing Tests without a meaningful first class system? Should their main focus be on white ball - and how can they avoid a repeat of the cancelled Australia series?

Was amazed by quite how dull the whole thing was when I saw it a few years ago

inspired by the memory of this excellent picture I made something very similar last night: baked rice an absolute revelation

there must be a cutting room floor somewhere full of gloomy shots of various characters dreaming about Getting It

totally. particularly in the castle scenes they could at least have made it so there was some sort of allure or bizarre fascination situation going on (which the original did have a go at ig). but instead here just Nick Hoult having his Worst Sales Trip Ever

It’s just quite an empty film isn’t it? There’s nothing driving the overall narrative because everything is presented as ‘and then this happened, I guess’

Does the holes-and-syrup bit still work in that shape? Do you just use a bit more syrup?

More warm-ups required to get them into a good rhythm

I watched it for the first time tonight, and blimey, there are a lot of scenes which are very similar to each other. Would be hugely improved if they’d just picked the best 2/3

how do slow horses S3&4 compare to 1&2? loved 1, but felt as though 2 got a bit confused about what it was trying to do
