The purpose of government is to provide public goods. Public data are a public good. This should never be privatized. While we can (and have) rescued some of this data, we need people to speak out about the halting of data collection!

Dr. Rene Van Acker, a world-renowned scholar, proud #UofG alumnus, and a leader deeply rooted in the University of Guelph community, has been appointed U of G’s 10th president and vice-chancellor, effective July 2, 2025. Learn more: uoguel.ph/22sbt

I see news posts and posts by The Onion and honestly, when I'm not looking at the poster's name first I can't tell them apart sometimes.

For context, the head of the Housing and Urban Development is a former NFL turned Mega Church pastor, appointed…by you know who. They’re kicking out the scientists so he can have an office on the 19th floor with an executive dining suite and parking spaces for his 5 cars.

Devastating account of the damage that conspiracy theories can cause. www.bbc.com/news/article...

LinkedIn messaging is such a useless dumpster fire constantly full of ads.

NotebookLM, a Google product has been fantastic for understanding technical standards. Put in document references and then ask questions as you would to an expert teacher. Check against the citations directly from the references. Cross check with external sources. Rinse and repeat and learn fast.

I think this is a great new feature for the Semantic Engine we are building here at the University of Guelph. Better documentation for more FAIR research data!

At @agrifooddatacan.bsky.social we are building the www.semanticengine.org to help researchers write better metadata schemas. And we also have a data verifier to find those empty data cells.

Well how about that.... #HigherEd #CleanAir www.massey.ac.nz/about/news/p...

Not only can working from home make you happier, for many disabled people it allows them to remain in the workforce It gives them autonomy & independence. Flexibility to attend doctors appointments and care for their health It’s a crucial accommodation, and removing it will harm disabled lives

The chatbot’s instructions tell it to “de-emphasize the climate catastrophe narrative,” to focus on “real pollution, not CO2.” The bot is told to frame these arguments in the most reasonable possible way. www.nationalobserver.com/2025/05/28/i...

New AI slop on Reddit. I found this in a post about blackout curtains but while they removed the end prompt the AI helpfully stuck one at the beginning. Welcome to a world of endlessly posted garbage. www.reddit.com/r/homeowners...

Elon Musk perfectly laying out the case against privatization in a single tweet

The enemy of my enemy still did two Nazi salutes.

this is the most sociopathic thing ive ever seen and i wrote a whole book about neonazis

It’s sort of funny the article stops short of drawing the obvious conclusion: RFK asked an LLM to cook up a phony report supporting his crackpot notions, and it churned out the usual slop full of hallucinated citations.

Elon is always lying. Therefore, we must focus on what Elon feels the need to lie about. This "I'm so backing off" lie shows: a) the #TeslaTakedown worked b) the #TeslaTakedown must ramp up He's going to be pulling the same shit & the media will be inclined to push his lie that he's backed off.

AI + misinformation = cheap political spin A weaponized AI chatbot is flooding city councils with climate misinformation www.nationalobserver.com/2025/05/28/i... via @nationalobserver.com "...artificial intelligence 'enables the cost of misinformation to come close to zero.'"

I want to offer a public apology to FDA head Marty Makary for calling him an ignorant piece of shit in a post last night. I just learned he is an islet transplant surgeon. Yes, the cells that produce insulin. I was wrong. He is not ignorant. This piece of shit knows *exactly* what he is doing.

Hear me out you might want to finally get serious about indoor air in hospitals

This same speech applies to much more than academia.

Doug Ford did this

The @nejm.org is cratering its credibility by publishing an article by Prasad and Makary that contains factual errors about Canadian vaccination policy. They include a table implying Canadian COVID vaccine recommendations are limited to high risk groups. Read it and weep, liars. /1

“Since I’ve rearranged my whole identity to call most people unclean and filled with vampire blood, their hugs seem less sincere. Separately, I have discovered the vampire-blooded have a new disease called Soft Hug Disease.”

American culture gets the dictator they deserve: tacky, self-absorbed, and a total moron.

I can't top this one.

Shoppers Drug Mart (Loblaws) is stealing money from Ontario's health care system by forcing pharmacy staff to cold call people and then fraudulently bill medication reviews. The Ministry of Health has long been aware of this, but they're still working on "improving" the program.

I’ve been saying that antivax and MAHA are an unholy combination of social Darwinism and soft eugenics.
