A frog I worried I had accidentally disturbed from hibernation a month or so ago, reappeared in the garden. I was both relieved and very happy.

Willie's cousin Tony was the Eye's art editor for many years. I do wish someone would do a retrospective book of his art but Tone himself has always declined, sadly.

A great cartoonist with a unique style. I am a huge fan too. Sadly so overlooked. Such a clever, funny person.

Excellent. A proper bit of Eye history. How wonderful to see the original. My late father-in-law used to sell Willie's work, having also directed him years before in TW3.

Hello. If you use cartoonists' work please can you credit them by name and the original publication? Thanks. This is by the brilliant Nick Newman.

Hello. New to here. I'm afraid I don't understand your message. Sorry. If you'd like to win the free books, just put Happy Christmas . Thanks!

The 'inspire' bit is relevant. I'm a state school educated author who grew up in the East Midlands, went to uni on a full grant, and now lives in the north of England. No one ever told me I was funny and could be a writer until a fellow student at uni suggested it. I'd love to inspire young readers.

As the reviewer has noted, for me the goal of a book like this one of mine is (1) to entertain the reader, (2) inform them without them necessarily realising there is any 'educating' going on, and (3) ultimately to inspire and support them. Once they have finally stopped laughing...

This book had the benefit of a brilliant designer called Anna Ring at Templar and the amazing inventiveness of German-based illustrator Franzi Hollbacher. She fills space with so many funny little extras that complement the text and design so beautifully and boost the humour many times over.

A thread, so keep reading below! I rough out in pencil the pages of my books to work out text amount, placing and timing of the jokes and info, and overall sense of the spread. These I scan & submit to my editors along with a text document of the words and some hopefully useful picture references.
