Wearing something around your neck is not a use case.

Nostalgia in politics can work for more than one thing, it doesn't only have to be a guy saying "Don't you miss being racist" it could be a different guy saying "Remember when people had pensions"

I really wish this episode had spent less time talking about how worker requirements for Medicaid "poll well", and more time articulating that it's insane to tie health-care coverage of any kind to a person's ability to work, because guess what makes it hard to work? Being sick!!

ok sorry I know everything is extremely bad but this is very funny

Vancouver council is debating a giant permanent sign that says "VANCOUVER", and staff say an issue is putting the sign in a place that won't interfere with film shoots. In other words, a giant "VANCOUVER" sign could interfere with vancouver's lucrative business of pretending to be any other city

Yeah, this the sort of methodology that sounds reasonable until you consider the fact that lots of people went out of their way to vote at polling stations that didn't have long lines, so Thunderbird's turnout would've been artificially higher than usual.

I’ve seen the new Housing Minister and others say this week that house price trends in Canada are basically the same as in other G7 countries. That simply isn’t true, as Hanif Bayat showed in a recent Globe piece. We really do have a made-in-Canada problem.

apparently Elon's gotten so mad about Grok not answering questions about Afrikaners the way he wants, xAI's now somehow managed to put it into some kind of hyper-Afriforum mode where it thinks every question is about farm murders or the song "Kill the Boer"

It's so cool and refreshing to get this intimate of a view on what it's like to be ushered into City Councillorhood as a regular-degular citizen. Really appreciating these insights from Sean, as well as his weekly video updates.

"Well, there went my shoe business" permanently ingrained in my mind

there are some days where i have more people mad at me online than my ancestors would have had mad at them in their entire lives. there is functionally no difference between this and being cursed by a witch

I just published the most personal thing I’ve ever written. The High Cost of Saying No: Why I Can’t Stop Talking About Housing. It’s about Atlanta and San Francisco, growth, and grief. And the decisions that shaped my marriage, my loss, and everything after www.dataandpolitics.net/the-high-cos...

first time filing with the Guardian. these are really challenging stories to write, but they also remind you of how powerfully communities support one another www.theguardian.com/world/2025/a...

My response to creators who don't like critics is always the same: You're not supposed to. Which doesn't mean you are specifically supposed to not like them, but you're not specifically supposed to like them, and whether you like them is beside the point. Criticism is not advice or correction.

OK fine if you were so right before why didn't I agree with you???

JUST IN: Ken Sim phoned-in the tiebreaking vote to defeat a motion to strengthen tenant protections across Vancouver. Ken Sim is ignoring voters who elected new councillors committed to protecting renters. Ken Sim is refusing to show integrity and change direction. #vanpoli #EvictKenSim

I continue to be impressed by Sean Orr's clear-eyed and genuine way of speaking - it's so incredibly refreshing.

Touching grass is not enough I need to get stuck in a hollow log

"Sim promised to donate $10,000 in bitcoin to the city." Omg, a whole 0.086 BTC?? What a guy 🥹🥹🥹

pumping and dumping the global economy

I do not understand the masculinity crisis as being a male is primarily about getting hella rad and I'm all about that

the guy sean orr got in a twitter fight with that sparked today's controversy harassed me constantly and once sent a threatening email telling me to "watch my back" or some other weird claptrap so this is just a friendly reminder to never tweet

the shift from “I never thought leopards would eat MY face” to “eat my face harder leopard daddy” must be studied

Make America The Great Depression Again

Building a mass movement (instead of a subculture) will require a lot of cringe, so get comfortable with it

Well this certainly inspires confidence.

Was explaining to David (11) the tariff stuff and what a tariff is and he was like “you mean like what started the revolutionary war?” And I was like; yes exactly.
