Thanks for suggesting this review. It's an understatement to say that it's unfortunate to find such articles behind a paywall!
If anyone is seeking access to learn more about this article from an open "important research for health" class (and/or to discuss teaching it yourself), let me know!

The "whataboutism" is killing our society. We need to look at problems logically and move forward together

I was so excited about Bike Anywhere Day that I said it's tomorrow!
The official day (with pit stops, etc) is Thursday (05/15/2025). So there's extra time to register and prepare.
I wish everyday to be Bike Everywhere Day (it's how I like to roll, though I like to walk too)

Ha! Sorry! I'm from the future. I hope everyone rides their bikes tomorrow (Wednesday) too!

It's not too late to register (I just did)!
I'll be stopping by the Leucadia Bike Shop pit stop. I hope to see y'all there!

Thank you for your participation and work for science communication!
I hope our Representative @levin.house.gov will be there tomorrow to learn and support learning as well

Thanks! It's not just about road safety for people on bikes. The lives of other motorists and pedestrians are being endangered (my daughter and I are unable to cross at crosswalks for some time because nobody looks up!). The phone addict risks a lifetime of being haunted by the family they destroy

I didn't know about it and you've opened up my world!

That (the separate phone use article) is an incredibly important article to be written and to somehow contribute to activating change!
Phone use is a runaway train. It's not just irresponsible teens. It's kindly grannies, minivan parents, friends and neighbors. It's not worth the lives it destroys.

Apologies for the sad, uncomfortable image. Again, none of this is fine. I hope more of us will question our systems and do what we can around us to seek better!

One week later. Our beach walk yesterday turned up more dead birds and a dead sea lion (perhaps the one from last week). I reported the sea lion to the SW Fisheries (NOAA) dead sea mammal hotline. They are under-resourced (this is not fine). There isn't even any appropriate hotline for the birds...

Did you talk about phones (I didn't read the whole article, due to my crashing into paywall)?
The touchscreen fiddling doesn't help road safety, but as a (full-time bike and on-foot commuter) concerned observer, phone-engagement addiction is the high speed elephant on the road

"Motorists shouldn’t forget they are driving [potentially] deadly weapons,” says a professor in my piece. An average of 112 Americans were killed every day on US roads in 2023 — a daily plane crash. 40,000 die every year.

Here, meaning North County San Diego. I've tried to report clusters of dead birds before and the resources seem to be lacking for useful, timely action.
There was also a juvenile sea lion on the beach (unusual, but not seemingly distressed). Kids and dogs too close though.
Concerning...

I see @ucsandiego.bsky.social represented by Chancellor Khosla on there now 🔱, but still no sign of Miami U (@miamiuniversity.bsky.social, where are you?) and apparently the Gator Nation is not everywhere (what do you say, @ufl.edu?)?

Yes, @ucsandiego.bsky.social , where are you? All of my schools seem to be missing (hopefully on their way). @ufl.edu and @miamiuniversity.bsky.social, let's go!

Thank you for posting about this!
Distracted driving is an incredibly massive problem. Phone use while driving is not worth it. It's not just teens - it's grandmothers, parents with kids in the car, otherwise responsible people - under the influence of reward-seeking

I'm curious about whether one could combine this with the NSs-Nluc (luciferase-expressing) system from the other paper you just shared, to make a virus you could use for preliminary safer challenge studies of other vaccines?

I love to see where we put the time and energy we have into real, healthy work for common good.
Maybe these tools/spaces could shift toward connecting us for those efforts?

You mention measles can cause immune amnesia.
It's fascinating and terrible. I wasn't aware of it until recently. I suspect most people are still unaware.
Thank goodness for @microbetv.bsky.social and public science communication!

Hey, nice bike!
Looks like a recent Costco (😱) run! I got some looks, but I was set for any emergencies on the ride home
