Objectively 0.1% of any population is still an addressable market. The world we live in today makes reaching that market relatively easy.

Some people don’t like being reminded that they’re either racists or recovering racists.

Yeah. I get profit motivated collective cover works in some places but my smooth brain doesn’t really think it works in healthcare which in core primary settings is effectively a natural monopoly and is already collectively covered via medicare. Fuck am I paying twice for?

This is not entirely true as aggressive debt repayment by Government is a choice not an automatic event or forgone conclusion. Depends on the ROI of any given governments investment options at any given point in time.

Dual payer health system. If Millennials and Zoomers wanted to take out their frustrations on Gen X and Boomers in a hostile-productive way we’d all opt out of private health cover.

The more money you have the more money you can spend on keeping more of that money.

The proportional and Preferential voting mix is a pretty strong defence against this type of shit.

It is absurd. But the marketing and debate of policy change is always absurd and always exhausting. “Reduce the pension age to 60” “We can’t afford it” 12 hours later “So we reduce the pension age to 60 and fund it with a transaction tax on prunes because old people”

Pretty sure it was a misread of the Nope reply that I sent simultaneously to her asking us to jog on.

Sure fair call.

Nope.

It’s a flawless insult.

Whether or not that will happen is going to be on @markbutlermp.bsky.social and @australianlabor.bsky.social I have very little faith that any Federal authority in Australia can divorce itself from its addiction to Sin Taxes. #auspol #vaping

The right legislative call is to cease excise increases on tobacco and to ban the sale of tobacco/vapes and the action of smoking/vaping for anyone born after current year minus 18 years. Move vaping into a retail rather than pharmacy setting. #auspol #vaping 👇🧵

It’s also part of the #tobaccowars that are constantly smashing our news cycle. And all of this is due to the negligence and cowardice of all Federal Governments and their inability to make the right legislative call. #auspol #vaping 👇🧵

That is $5.4bn a year straight into the hands of criminal enterprise on vaping alone. That is 120m single use batteries improperly disposed of. Potentially a multi-billion dollar tax gap. #auspol #vaping #tobaccowars 👇🧵
comment in response to post
The same holds true for vaping products even though they are readily identifiable as being legal or illicit. But they keep moving at pace in the Black Market. At 10m units per month with an average consumer price of $45. #auspol #vaping #tobaccowars 👇🧵
comment in response to post
It’s almost impossible for police to police illegal tobacco once it’s in the hands of consumers because it is extremely difficult to identify a legal or illicit tobacco product. At the consumer level policing is just far too resource intensive. #auspol #vaping #tobaccowars 👇🧵
comment in response to post
Let me be super clear, smoking was dumb as hell and I wish I had never picked up the habit. But endless taxation increases have diminishing returns when the product remains legal. An illegal pack of smokes is less than half the price of a legal one. #auspol #vaping #tobaccowars 👇🧵

I very clearly laid out what would happen if vaping was banned to John Safran in 2019 and JJJs the Hack. That vaping would move to grey and then black market imports in the same way smoking did when addicts were priced out of the market. #auspol #vaping #tobaccowars 👇🧵
comment in response to post
I ran one of the largest vaping companies in Australia by volume of product sold. We paid our taxes and never sold a drop of nicotine. I always took a harm minimisation approach and self regulated when there were no regulations preventing me from selling vapes to kids. #auspol #vaping 👇🧵

KCA barely rates as drivel let alone as “independent media”

No battery?

Neoliberalism was lazy. More accurate description would be technocratic centrists trying to salvage capitalism and free markets with green credentials. They still represent the eternally contracting, wealthy, anti-worker, anti-union electorates.

They have to avoid it at all costs. The Party is badly disorganised as it is and a by-election loss would be a signal to the broader public that the Liberals aren’t in a position to Govern. Also the ever circling threat of Teal coloured neoliberals.

So you mean increase the Tax Free Threshold to 50k? Rather than scrapping it.

The rest of Australia should really just let South Australia govern them.

Leaving things up to councils is one of the reasons we’re in this mess heh.

KCA is purely a clout chaser, pretentious dickhead and unserious predator. Looking forward to the next time he gets sued for being a fucking idiot. #auspol

Minimum expectation would have been public condemnation in the strongest possible terms. Yesterday. When the event occurred. Not 24 hours later in the safety of an appearance at the National Press Club. @albomp.bsky.social didn’t meet the moment.

It’s a self-reinforcing algorithm chambered in echo. Babet baits responses from the US right to increase his numbers. Babet is also straight up a traitor.

We should be building housing up above all those suburban shopping centres if we want to be really honest with ourselves.

How though?

Curious question: AU-LNG is fungible, won’t Scope 3 emissions occur elsewhere anyway? Reasoning: It can be easily transported by sea, without needing pipelines—so if Australia won’t supply it, other potentially dirtier exporters will. Demand for supply will still exist and someone will fill gaps.

I agree but this isn’t grift. This was opportunism created where the broader Australian Governments were engaged in economic rationalism almost across the board. Hawke-Keating through Howard-Costello. Also KKOA isn’t reliable. Inflates numbers and clout chases. #auspol #truthinmedia
