If you decide to come, be sure to have all your travel documents and reservations in order. Scrub your phone of any apps that have personal data, especially social media that is critical of the current administration or the US government. Don't use a burner phone-that will be seen as suspicious.

As a motorcycle rider I'm acutely aware of the number of folks who are on their phones. If you've ever wondered why some of us won't ride close to you in your car, or even when you motion us to go ahead and we won't, that's why.

Joe Rogan was a Bernie Sanders guy. Maybe, instead, we need some real liberals.

Hitler admired Henry Ford both for his business acumen and his antisemitism. Being admired by Hitler is a heck of a bar to clear.

On The Beach by Nevil Shute. Scared the bleeping cr@p out of me. Read it as a 12 year old. Wasn’t ready for it at all.

We had a dog named Willow who was very much her own pooch. It's amazing how much impact the pets with personality have.

Yup. Was going to mention Soylent Green, but I think a lot of the inspiration for the movie came from the industrialization of 'the final solution' by the Nazis.

So disappointing. Someone else that needs a thorough investigation once Trump is gone.

There are a large number of people here who have no faith in the government's ability to protect them. Conservatives have cultivated this since Reagan. So lots of folks believe their guns are what keeps them safe and keeps the government from turning on them. You cannot convince them otherwise.

Yup. I've seen multiple discussions of people getting benefits who still don't want the 'wrong' people receive them. They will vote to eliminate a benefit if they think a group they dislike is getting it. Bottom line, you can't effectively campaign on policy. It's all vibes.

Ah, yes. A third party. Perhaps Jill Stein could run it. After all, she’s done so much for US politics.

There’s a whole level of middle management that exists to deal with people in the office. These folks are desperate to return to the status quo so they can keep their jobs.

Policy doesn’t matter. It’s all vibes. I live between some Trump supporters who hated the policies but loved the man. Policy discussions just tune out the majority of voters. They view the government as corrupt and want it burned down.

I don't think this is an aberration, rather its business as usual. The monied elites have always kowtowed to whoever threatened their wealth. Democracy is mostly an afterthought to these folks - their wealth provides them things the rest of us have to fight for.

It boggles my mind that these folks forget all the violence that 19th century class violence caused.

So, will the response be CEO kindness and introspection, OR beefed up security and more hassles for the 'little people'? I'm guessing there will be a lot of bribes splashed around DC in the next few days.

Since the pandemic I've gotten so picky about what I read. Generally, if I put a book down and have to convince myself to pick it up, I just set it aside. 10 year ago I was reading everything that came my way. Now, probably 1/2 of what I pick up I end up discarding. I couldn't tell you why.

My local news broke away from regular programming to announce this, and do commentary on it. Meanwhile, Charles Kushner is named as ambassador to France. Peep none from local voices. Dems are held to a different standard.

US was founded by rich tax dodgers. This has been SOP until early 20th century trust-busting. Too many of these rules are just polite norms with no legal penalties. We need to change that.

My dog had knee surgery last Thursday, so she needs to be lifted on and off of everything. And taken out on leash so she doesn't injure herself. I spend a good 30 minutes in the rain last night waiting for her to pee. To quote Lee Dorsey, 'Lord, I am so tired! How long can this go on?'.
