I need books like I need air. Software Engineer. #FuckAI I read a lot of #webcomics, in addition to my #book addiction. I will not follow you back unless I know you, or you are an author/artist I follow. I will block bigots and annoying people.

...Until Side Quested is made into an animated movie?

Here's the particular post it's in, if you were wondering: smartbitchestrashybooks.com/2025/06/hide...
comment in response to post
I was telling my wife and a couple friends about it, and my wife said Smart Bitches had it in their latest newsletter. So hopefully it'll get some well-deserved attention.

Sadly, if you're already in the wanting to do a trial run phase, you already trained the thing, which is almost enough to make me cancel my donation. Stop murdering the environment, please.

I either already have this account blocked, or it's been removed. Hoping for the latter.

That seems like an incredible overestimate. At 200lbs, you need 3k calories? No, definitely not. Unless "moderate activity" is actually running five miles.

Especially since they probably require you to agree to feed everything you produce into their AI training, or they just do it without asking.

"I was just following orders" wasn't an excuse at the trials for Nazis after WWII, and it's still not an excuse today. If you are ordered to attack civilians, do not obey.

I have been, and will continue to post this often. Your Guard, Reserve and active duty family, friends, neighbors and coworkers are going to need it. Please share far, wide and often!

Human children do not learn to reproduce art exactly. They learn and imitate, but produce their own style. AI doesn't have a style of its own, because it can only reproduce the things it was trained on.

This is, perhaps, the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I'm a software engineer, I taken AI and ML classes. Computers are tools, and comparing them to slavery is abhorent. AI is a tool. It has no agency, it was directed by a human what to learn, so that it can reproduce it almost exactly.

That should have read, "One of the webcomics I follow..."

I think my reaction is because I read mostly series, and series almost never have a single color on their covers, and I can't get behind an organizational system that splits series. I did think about it more, and it would work if someone had mostly standalone books. Or if all their series matched.

I got to "color coded books" and was horrified.

A Space Adventure Hour is a cross over with Adventure Time.

I just missed the "without internet" part. My parents used AAA travel planning when I was a kid. When I had to go somewhere new, I did the Mapquest + memorize method until I got a TomTom many years later. I still have the TomTom, but it's obsolete with smart phones.

I just... what? First appearance of Tony Stark / Iron Man was nine years before he was born. I weep for our journalists.

I have no idea. I looked it up on my parents' church website. Something about first fruits, I think?

Pentecost is coming up, I believe.

They're not sincere. They will, assuming we have elections again, go out and vote R down the line again. Given the choice, they'd do it again to keep a Democrat from taking office. The only thing they might consider is voting against him in the primary.

Sadly, their job is to get you to load the page so they can gain ad revenue, not inform people about things.

Well damn, it already passed the House. :(

Which one? I'm not finding a Federal one just by googling.

I don't think I could ever deal with the wider process. I can just write my stuff and hide it away, never to bother an editor. Because woof. Edits sound awful. Not to mention getting an agent and querying and rejection after rejection... I'll just keep plugging away at code.

I can't find a report of screwfly or screwworm being found in California. We did recently pause trade of live animals with Mexico (the entire US, not just California) due to an outbreak there. Still, I trust Seanan McGuire is correct and I'm just not finding the report.
comment in response to post
For those curious, the Screwfly fact was that they're in California. And that's not terrifying at all. P.S. That's extremely terrifying.

Ahahahaha, nope. I was apparently blinded by my own 0%.

I just got back from three hours of Chinese school, in which my class is all adults, or at least mature teenagers, and I'm still wiped out. I can't imagine being around a bunch of younger kids and a bunch of adults, and not being at 0%. So you're just amazing!

It's just mostly lore dump about why the MC is on an involuntary suicide mission to the outer edge of the solar system... So it needs rewritten, like a lot. I was hoping getting it out onto paper* would get it out of my brain, but nope. *Google Docs, not actual paper.
comment in response to post
There's no description. Like at all. There's very little plot, though it does involve the MC jumping out of their spaceship because it's out of fuel and they can't dock with the alien station in it.

And... pre-ordered!

So... I'm just going to go with "my wedding" for the one thing.
