PHILLY:

I understand why we aren’t supposed to call people the r word to contemptuously describe their lack of intelligence. But it’s a lot harder writing a political science dissertation when you can’t use the word “Republican.”

It's really quite funny that the most indoor, online, refuse-to-ever-touch-grass group of conspiracy theorists (tiktok zoomers) hit upon "if I haven't personally seen it, it's not real" as their favored theory. Like...buddy you never see anything in person

No guarantees but this has a chance to be the greatest internet day since the Queen died.

God I thought I needed actual good things to happen to feel happy, I never realized how much weight spite still carries

Relatedly, I think the broad direction of Boeing over the past few decades should be an epochal scandal in American politics and an utterly damning indictment of the entire post-Cold War direction of the country, but nobody cares enough to do more than make the occasional assassination joke.

The top priority for Trump 2.0 is to punish the libs and science is lib-coded despite “STEM” being centrist to conservative coded because the pro-STEM rhetoric is really just anti-humanities rhetoric, they don’t actually support science and half of them think the Earth is 6,000 years-old.

I have never in my life, seen anything like this, and I would actually like to ask anyone else if they’ve ever seen whole groups of federal officials obscuring their names and replacing it with “the others” or if this is new.

This is what Democrats should be doing right now. One part of it is making the case in public. The other part of it is doing the work NOW to gather evidence for a legal case against these assholes later, so that can move quickly (unlike the Trump cases 2021-2024)

Rather than try and divine the contents of any given interviewee's heart, I will observe that entirely too many people, across the political spectrum, understood the 2024 election to be about something other than who would be the chief executive in 2025

Dr. Marino showing us the contrast, that you can do incredibly regrettable, reputation-harming things while perfectly sober.

Comments on this addiction discourse: 1. Drugs ABSOLUTELY make people do messed up, evil things they would not otherwise do. They alter your brain chemistry! They don't simply "reveal the evil that was there otherwise" outside some unhelpful philosophical take that we're all evil.

natalism discourse is exhausting not because there aren't statistically detectable shifts in the rate of childlessness or family size or whatever, but because to turn that into A Big Issue of Public Concern, you have unthink the much larger issues of public concern that it's actually downstream from

Seems like an easy enough solution - the ABA rates any judge they don't get to review as "unqualified". When we get the government back, pass a bill removing every judge the ABA rated as unqualified.

As I've said before, what we're dealing with fundamentally here, and have been dealing with for some time, is evil. Our political norms and political media prohibit talking about a mainstream political faction this way. But it is the truth. It needs to be known and it needs to be said.

Basically, not all bad people are Republicans but all Republicans are bad people. That’s literally it.

Count me as off the "Romano has it together again!" bus.

yeah this is me as well I think. it's not that the "look at the hypocrisies of liberal democracy" stuff was like, *wrong*, it was frequently right on the merits, it's just that there was a real lack of introspection into what the likely alternative to "the hypocrisies of liberal democracy" was!

at the risk of going to Super Hell for this joke, was he drinking an Irish Car Bomb

Honestly hard to argue Miley setting up a junta after 1/6 until the American people were ready for democracy again wouldn’t have led to a better world at this point.

Incredibly, the last living grandson of John Tyler, the 10th President of the United States (1841-1845), just died at the age of 96. “Just three generations of the same family stretch almost all the way back to the founding of our country”. [kottke.org]

I don't think we give the Irish enough shit for pronouncing "Dublin" with 3 syllables.

If only the New Yorker had read @albertburneko.bsky.social six months ago it could have avoided wearing the clownshoes today defector.com/what-the-fuc...

Glad we’re defunding actual science while handing money to a Nazi grifter who can’t replicate technology from the Eisenhower administration
