Fascists need not reply. They need not exist, to be perfectly honest. Speaking of which, I once sat next to Stephen Miller at a wedding reception. He ate all the shrimp and glared at the rest of us until we told him to go away. Also, he picked his nose.

It's a trilemma, silly. Horn 3: Bomb Canada, have to listen to all the woke socialists whine about it.

And will it go endlessly back and forth? Every once year??? Aaaiiiii!!!!! Also, I didn't realize we were going to, make anything great again. (I've heard of the Oxford comma; is that the Mar-a-Lago comma?)

Heck, threat actors will have so many ways to weaponize GPT5 they won't know what to do! (But then they'll ask it what to do, and then they'll know. So that's nice.)

I think you have fallen into a trap of thinking that your own views are the only ones that we dare defend. Tell me I'm wrong.

Those visuals are largely MAGA propaganda. And are visuals of dead or wounded Gazan civilians among the rubble of their homes not awful? Do they not turn people off? (And yes, of course Hamas's slaughter of Israelis on Oct 7 was horrific.)

Hamas's flag? You mean this? Hamas Flag (White Variant with Colored Emblem) upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/co...

Or, better yet, choose to make the principled choice NOW, not the craven choice now. Choose not to throw trans people under the bus saying we can always pull them back out later, when Democratic electoral prospects improve!!

Yes, obviously I'm angry at you and attacking your position on this issue. Tell me you're for trans rights. Tell me you'll take to the streets along with the rest of us before not just 27, but all 50 states ban gender-affirming care, and before countless MORE trans kids kill themselves in despair.

Doesn't it occur to you that if we don't defend groups facing hateful attacks, we're enabling those attacks? And that the more overmatched in power a group is, the more vigorously and unwaveringly we must defend them? You assert exactly the opposite, hiding behind cowardly sophistry.

That, frankly, is an immoral and cowardly position to take. Are Haitian immigrants also too few to stand up for? Drag queens? Authors, and readers, of "controversial" books?

Clearly, your opinion is that trans people don't matter enough for Democratic candidates for public office—some of whom are transgender, by the way!—to talk about the longstanding vile, violent, and increasingly organized and overt attacks on their existence, let alone actually to stand up for them.

Can you say specifically what those mistakes were?
comment in response to post
Of course. But we have Trump instead. And MAGA control of Congress. And a right-wing supermajority on SCOTUS. And if we (we!) don't fight for trans rights, frankly there will be a lot more dead trans kids.

They're under sustained attack by MAGA fascists, and to say "There aren't enough of them to risk losing votes over"—please correct me if I've misinterpreted you!—is a betrayal.

I share your concerns about attacks on gay marriage. But standing up for the right of trans people TO EXIST is not "dying on a small hill".

"Purest positions"? Please tell us which position(s) you're thinking of in the context of transgender issues.

I think they meant this: Declaring war should only ever be done by Congress....not by one person, regardless of who it currently is.

I'm glad you still have hope! Also glad I resisted the knee-jerk impulse to ream you out for being defeatist!!! ;-)

We're not fucked. *They're* fucked, they just don't know it yet!

Does this person also think it's bad to drop tortillas? (Wait, I agree with that—whatever you do, don't drop the tortillas!!!)
comment in response to post
Ah yes, both sides are to blame. How could we not have seen that?

Ábrego García might be guilty of what he's being indicted for. Which would not make his mistreatment by the Trump régime even the slightest bit less evil and fascistic than it would otherwise be. But no doubt Fox (and others) will spin this as some kind of justification. Fascist f*cks.

The GOP, now mired in disarray, To fits of desp'rate flailing, flummoxed, falls; And falling lifts its head once more to cry For succor, but a keening sound comes thence; And summons only madness and despair To drown all thought, to still its writhing thews.

One weird trick will fix that: Iambic pentameter.

But I agree that the NYT is largely crap nowadays.

I could easily be wrong, of course. (For one thing, I was only ~11 at the time!)

I think the substitution of "expletive deleted" was the work of the Nixon administration—i.e., their initial "compromise" with the congressional committee that subpoenaed the tapes was to provide transcripts of some (not all) tapes.

Incidentally, Dan Boingaboing's days as a sentient being are also numbered. 1 (boing!), 2 (boing!). There was no 3. Apparently his central nervous system gave out after the second boing.

Where to begin with all this stenographic bullsh*t??? First, a disclaimer: I haven't read the article itself. Consequently I may be judging Lipton too harshly. He may have some interesting insights on the DOGE f*ckery. But his post here reads as an admission that he's sanewashing the fascist crap.
