It really feels like we don’t talk enough about how much COVID has fucked up our politics, our culture, and all of us personally. It’s not surprising considering how absolutely averse this country is to confronting trauma, but sometimes it still needs to be said.

Remember when this pic of Elián González was a national scandal instead of a daily occurrence?

In the past, free Black people were kidnapped and placed into slavery. In 2025, Latinos are being kidnapped and detained; even though they are US citizens or in legal status. This is Solomon Northup, a free Black man who spent 12 years as a slave. Do not dismiss history.

It’s really time in British politics we had a discussion about how political elites remaining on X are being exposed to increasingly extreme/fringe views but are completely unaware of it.

A family friend thinks I’m living in fear because I mask They won’t visit because having to mask robs them of joy They’ve been sick for 2 weeks Today they admit it’s the worst flu of their life. Can’t get out of bed, eat or drink. I deserve a medal for not asking them if it impacted their joy

☣️ COVID is going around in DC I tell you this, because the government won’t. Take necessary precautions.

I'm experimenting with a way to show how DOS games render themselves. Basically I'm recording a lossless video of the game running on a very slow (virtual) CPU, then removing all the frames where nothing happens, and I'm playing it back sped up a lot.

Saw someone use this information unironically when answering a question about secrets in Mario 64 Time to leave the planet

not to be histrionic but I kind of feel like the confluence of Trumpism, algorithmic social media, and LLMs have placed language and the fundamental proposition that words have meaning under unprecedented strain and it’s freaking me out more than a bit

We should have a memorial day for COVID. It is horrific that we as a society have done virtually nothing to remember the millions who have died. Rushing to forget what happened also makes it much more likely that we will continue to repeat our deadly mistakes.

It's disheartening to think about the white Americans who cared about racism for a few days five years ago and then ... didn't.

5 years ago: “An incalculable loss” Today: Banning masks and restricting vaccine access

This week's comic: Highly selective health nuts

Covid is a social justice issue. Public Health is a social justice issue. “You do you” doesn’t work when we’re all sharing the air We need to provide free respirators, tests and vaccines. We need to put clean air in public buildings. We need to give folks paid time off We need to work together

‼️‼️

Include disabled people in resistance efforts. We are skilled at fighting systems of oppression. We fight against ableism & eugenics every day. We’re masters at contingency and emergency planning because we have to be to survive. Wear masks, make meetings accessible & inclusive.

“Are you ever going to stop masking?” People ask this with disdain, as though they can’t comprehend how someone could *still* be masking in 2025 I like not being sick. If I had known how effective N95s were, I would have worn them before! As long as society stays in denial, masking is necessary

Yeah, so I am an immunocompromised person permanently disabled twice over because feckless and/or greedy people wanted to pretend there was no pandemic, so I get a bit angry when people pretend masking is *just too much to ask* No, it’s actually quite simple.

This is revolting. www.facebook.com/auschwitzmem...

Back before the Internet, we thought the reason for human stupidity was the lack of information options. I’ll put it this way: That wasn’t it.

Hey Bluesky, is anybody else worn out by seeing a genocide? Yeah...me too. Free Palestine. But also take time to rest, please. Make sure you're spending time in your hobbies and not drowning. We have a responsibility to be there to pick people up when they fall.

Ableism is everywhere. When you say “only the vulnerable have to worry”… that’s ableism. When you tell someone to “just try harder”… that’s ableism. When you ask if someone has pre-existing conditions? That’s ableism. No social justice without disability justice and inclusion.

Fascism sets in EXACTLY like this. Days go by. Nothing improves. The people wait with bated breath for SOMETHING or SOMEONE to help. Court orders, but no enforcement. Time passes. We become desensitized. Life goes on. Rights are chipped away. Life goes on. People die. Life goes on.

ICYMI, the convicted felon in the White House is breaking laws every day, his party is ignoring it, courts are ruling against him, and he's ignoring the courts. That's where we are.

I need cis people to understand that if this bill passes, thousands of trans people will die. That's not hyperbole. That's not sensationalism. That's fact. You know the genocide of trans people in the United States you refuse to acknowledge? It's here.

We tried to warn everyone that every Covid infection ages you, and we tried to warn them it would take a few years for the impact to manifest. On cue, everyone's talking about Gen Z's "accelerated aging," and they still refuse to acknowledge one major source of the problem.

When you say something 100% true that people don’t want to hear, because it makes them feel ashamed for the evil things they have done and will continue to do, instead of changing their mind they just get really, really angry at you for saying the truth. This is why everything is so fucked up.

Made some Magic: The Gathering cards

There's an entire political platform to be founded based on just this headline

chatGPT must be destroyed.

I painted this today

Boycotting large chains is a privilege. Protesting is a privilege. Moving States or countries is a privilege. Prepping is a privilege. Growing your own food is a privilege. Stockpiling meds is a privilege. Far too many of the “solutions” to fascism are inaccessible to many disabled people.

When traitors who bludgeoned cops and smeared feces in the halls of Congress are hailed as heroes, and when the family of one of those traitors gets $5 million from taxpayers, it’s vital for actual patriots to remember: YOU’RE NOT CRAZY – THEY ARE.

covid threw into high relief how many working class people are absolutely necessary to keeping society functional, and rather than that sparking a renewed commitment to an economy that rewards such workers, we've seen an elite backlash against even modest increases in their market power

These charges are clearly unfounded. Representative McIver was exercising her legally protected authority as a member of Congress to conduct oversight of a detention center that receives millions of taxpayer dollars.

Rep. LaMonica McIver being charged by Trump’s DOJ for “assaulting” a cop is particularly scary because it was all on camera with many witnesses and the administration feels comfortable enough to straight up lie with impunity and target a sitting congresswoman

This is your friendly reminder that generative A.I. is not "intelligence" and it's not the "wave of the future." No. Large Language Models (LLMs) are super-expensive bullshit machines that suck up a fuck-ton of stolen data, including private info and creative content, in order to badly mimic it.

Wow: after 15 years, YouTube has taken down the original 'Rick Roll' video due to a "licensing issue," likely due to the acquisition of Astley's record lable. The metadata remains, but if you click through it goes to 'video not found': www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4...
