When I lived in Nashville I used Turnip Green Creative Reuse, so I was delighted to see this article talk about a different art reuse place there. Creative reuse is such a great resource for artists!

Probably? They talk about the Atlanta Highway (IIRC, US 78 out of Athens, which makes sense). Great album, btw.

When I drank, that was one of my favorites. Future Primitive is a solid brewery. I think NPFO is still on tap at the Pine Box.

Small aside, but is that your Aventon? I was looking at those and they keep popping up as highly recommended.

I absolutely LOVE our half ton GMT800 Suburban we bought last year for camping. Bought it from the original owner (a retired pilot), 190k, runs like a top. I’ve owned nearly 70 cars, and honestly, this is one of my favorites. There are a few things to look out for, but overall they are solid.

The Lane had a couple of these at one time, and I always enjoyed moving them around (well, the one that ran, anyway).

So now you know more than you ever wanted about Syracuse and the salt potato. And thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

And if you want some more long form history, here is YouTube’s “The History Guy” with a nice rundown of Syracuse’s salt and salt potato history. And I’m glad he mentions clam bakes, another summertime right of passage in CNY.

The high salinity of the water (a CUP of salt for every 2 pounds of potatoes) makes the potatoes retain moisture and cook throughly, so even though they have a fine dusting of salt on the outside, inside they are creamy and flavorful and not at all salty. Just add butter.

Now, I’m hearing you loud and clear, for people out there how are decidedly NOT Syracusans: What the FUCK is a salt potato? Oh, my friends, it’s is the greatest butter, salt, and starch delivery system ever created. A quick primer for the uninitiated:

However, the Devices is not my favorite Syracuse baseball promotion - that would belong to the time they temporarily became the Syracuse Salt Potatoes, AND OF COURSE I HAVE SALT POTATOES GEAR I HAVE A FUCKING BRANNOCK DEVICE ON THE WALL OF MY HOME.
comment in response to

The Brannock Device is a foot measuring tool invented in Syracuse by Charles Brannock. Now,as a proud son of the Salt City, OF COURSE I have an actual Brannock Device hanging in a place of prominence in my home, just above the VHS box for the patron saint movie of minor league baseball, Bull Durham.

Next time I will, I miss my Miatas! As for Memorial Day, we’re taking said ‘Burb out to near Salt Creek/Port Angeles to camp for the weekend. We need to plan a trip down your way sometime soon.

We live in a 700sf apartment and have a Costco membership. We’re just not getting the monster pack stuff, for obvious reasons. Tons of great deals on smaller stuff/gas/travel/electronics/motor oil/electric toothbrush heads/OTC medication/coffee/glasses/etc. Well worth it to us 🤷♂️, plus they ship.

I’ve had a bunch of B-bodies over the years and all but a couple (Cadillacs) had crank windows. What a fuckin pain in the ass. And now that I think of it almost none of them had the passenger mirror, either.
