Would be good to see this happen, for too long we have privatised profit and nationalised losses. investments can go up and down - these should be no different.

If the invasion stops it's a bit like the end of WW1 scenario for the Russians. Very dangerous situation for the Russian regime.

If the Ukraine war comes to an uneasy stalemate or frozen conflict a Belarusian annexation then becomes a convenient victory to celebrate. Realistically who is going to support Belarus to push back when all will be weary from Ukraine. They have no other meaningful allies to turn to.

Why did he want bit and probably all of Georgia, why is he questioning the sovereignty of the Baltic states, why is he proposing up the regime in Transnistria? It's all pretext for old fashioned imperialism. He has transitions ned to a war economy so what time do with that army once the war is over?

I see him as being in a bit of a bind. As soon as the Ukraine war ends, assuming Putin is still in power, he will be looking for some sort of victory. Annexing Belarus seems like the obvious target. What happens to Luka in that scenario - off ramp might be a more favourable route for him.

One of the rare times in politics where the right thing to do is just to sit on the fence or drag your feet on everything to do with this. Advocate for peace, deescalation and for aid to to get into Gaza is the only right thing to do here. There are no good guys or moral high ground on any side here

It would be interesting to see what his response would be if the West offered him and his cronies diplomatic immunity if he swaps sides and a golden handshake to flip sides on the basis that he facilities open elections allows NATO troops to secure Belarus and resigns.

For a country that's so full of guns it almost amazing that nobody seems to have pulled one out in these things. Especially since it's "supposedly" dangerous criminals that they claim to be targeting.

Have you got the the pointing with their thumb to emphasise a point during speeches one yet? That's another typical weird thing we get here as well although both left and right are guilty of it. Once you notice it, it becomes quite annoyingly hard not to get irritated by it.

Google Tory stance. It was a thing the British Conservative party had for a while. Was some sort of body language coaching going horribly wrong.

I genuinely don't think their leadership actually wants power. They want to perpetually campaign and complain. Grift and lien their pockets detached from any real consequence or responsibility.
comment in response to post
At what point does this reach the level that it's considered a terrorist campaign and treated as such by the authorities. It wouldn't be tolerated anywhere else in the UK and shouldn't be in NI either. If the authorities don't take action the the people eventually will and that will be much worse.

You could apply this logic also to the SNP candidate. Their whole campaign seemed to be vote for us this is a two horse race with Reform in which they managed to come second and third. What actually is their offer to voters. An indy ref that won't come in the foreseeable, hardly enticing.

Unease is not justification for invasion and also what give Russia the right to mtry and dictate the foreign and security policies of other nations? All new NATO countries have joined to protect themselves specifically from Russian aggression.

Yeah it's became a thing for right wing political figures families to run interference on their behalf. Johnston had his dad and sister, Reece Mogg his sister, Trump his sons and so on. Never heard from family from the left except for Corbyns brother who is a liability. Funny that eh?

This is the key. We really need a psychological shift in this country where apprenticeship especially in STEM subject are viewed as equal to university. A work based learning model is also far more accessible financially and should be encouraged a lot more than it is.

I think its more to do with a changing media and news landscape. Before a story would break and the other side would shape a narrative to combat it and the papers would run this a day or two later. Now the counter punch has to be out on social media immediatly as we have an hourly news cycle

I work in education in the UK. Financially a lot of our universities are struggling. Foreign students basically pay to keep the show on the road. It's being quietly spoken about but there is definitely talk of poaching a lot of the US foreign student market & being able to change higher rates

Palace seems the real outlier here. Surely there's a bit of London rivalry there or am I missing something completely?

The whole deal is odd. I could be wrong but my understanding is there is no change on food standards but US can export a small amount of beef to UK now as long as it meets UK food standards. Also there is questions on whether it's an actual trade deal legally or effectively just an MoU at this point

I agree it's not simple but joing the single SM/CU will bring a lot of the benefits and do a lot of the legwork for rejoin, without the political backlash. It also plants a pretty big flag on the pro-EU camp although I don't really buy into the premise of the UK having to choose a side between EU/US
comment in response to post
It's the path of least resistance. Rejoin n the single market and customs union- to rejoin the EU probably need either a referendum or it to be explicitly on an election manifesto. If we are back in the SM + CU it's a much quicker and easier process for full rejoin afterwards.

Break out star award. Had to be under 21, and can only qualify if it's their first season that they have made more than 12 appearances.

Hopefully we can also agree access to EU/Swiss passport gates at airports again and reciprocate for Europeans coming here. The current set up is beneficial to nobody and an easy win for both sides.

Tennis I think works portrait as most of the players movement is lateral which would be more difficult to follow in landscape unless it was a complete top down view of the court.

If Russia collapses which I think might need to happen for them to stop, ideally it is broken into smaller countries which can be reformed i to stable democracies. Independent Sibera, Chechnya, etc with large scale de-nuclearisation

The rumours that seem to be floating about suggest that the EU deal should be quite significant, so hopefully true. But the smart thing to do is to try and get a good deal with the EU and with the US. As much as I detest their current government we need to remember Trump is temporary.
comment in response to post
Is 19th of May not the date for an EU trade deal to get announced. Will wait to see details before passing judgement in this.

The water companies only have one customer who fortunately Ian in the postie na of setting the tekes of contracts and regulation. Just write into any contract that they can't pay any dividends until infrastructure is fixed, debts paid otherwise let them fold and just pick up the pieces.

I'm agreeing with your point that we shouldn't deplatform them by that their level of coverage should be more equitable to their size.
comment in response to post
It's not a question of the greens and Aldo the Lib Dems is not about deplatforming but about equitable coverage. Reform are still electorally a minor party in comparison to the Lib Dems but get drastically more coverage. Fundamentally that is not right.
comment in response to post
That was an absolute cracker. Probably the best since the year they done similar and tennants had a whited out sponsor logo. Think it was maybe a Nike top at the time.
comment in response to post
Agree 100%. Reform also seems to float by getting little critical analysis - they have little coherent policy platform and need challenged aggressively on this as well as their ties to Russia and Trump. They do well when they dictate the narrative but tend to crumble when put in the back foot
comment in response to post
It's getting huge coverage in the UK as well. Usually it would only get the odd article and couple of minor segments in evening news or political programmes. If Australia follows suit the UK, Canada and Australia all have newly elected centre left parties keen to work together could be powerful.

This is a good first step. Got to really highlight the benefits of this and get industry to push that message. So far there been little to no political backlash if that continues then it clears the path for more. Let bring back Erasmus and the use of EU gates at ports again.

There is a double edge sword to this that has come about due to apps and it's that a lot of "women moan" are reluctant to settle- as in the almost always get a lot of matches so have the illusion of having more choice or that there is always some "better".
comment in response to post
Yes but I would want it to be formatted in a way that allows more than just the Old Firm to be able to access form Scotland- a structure of regular season then playoff combining the strongest teams from similar sized leagues would be good
comment in response to post
It's in interesting bulge in the teen years on that graph. I wonder how much of that is a statistical gathering issue with parents presumably in the 40-60 age group answering that their kids are Christian. 0-10 age range possibly reflecting the attitudes of their younger less religious parents

We had 14 years and 4 elections to get rid of our conservative government with the last 8 being proper carnage and corruption stuff. Hopefully the US doesn't have such a long haul- midterms are crucial but the Dems need to get their act together
comment in response to post
Looking from the UK this looks a bit like a copy of the Trump play book. Run these rallies for 4 years and the Democratic primary is almost wrapped up- give a huge lead and focal point of resistance for the next election. AOC could work but need to build a braid appeal program beyond anti maga.

Thinking of setting up a made in UK label company. Import from china, stick in new label and change packaging and export to the US with only 10% tariff. There's a whole new middle man economy just waiting to be born.
comment in response to post
Exactly this. UK need to pivot back towards Europe along with Canada. The UK and USA are primarily service based economies and the US now sells I to a very hostile Euro market. We should be focussing on how we capture some of the US trade into Europe.

My worry is that he is reckless enough to.
comment in response to post
That's the rumour that's doing the rounds just now. Big questions has got to be, is the gold still there and what are the repercussions if the US refuses repatriation. It could be incredibly messy
comment in response to post
How long before he claims that the gold held in Fort Knox will be held ransom to pay for "reparations". Time to hammer the US service sector in Europe.

I also believe but don't know if it's true or not but for some reason during WW1 it was considered bad luck to shoot a piper amongst the Germans.
comment in response to post
I'm free m Scotland but I ow that it's tartan day in NY which is why they are there .... however I can also say with a fair degree of confidence that the pipers will be in support of the protest as well as Trump is generally hated here.
