I was proud to sign this thoughtful letter to the Bluesky team advocating for members of the Bluesky community from Gaza, whose accounts are regularly removed without adequate explanation. Please read and consider signing.

Judge John Bates (D.D.C.): Trump's executive order against Jenner & Block "violates the Constitution and the Court will enjoin its operation in full." washingtonpost.com/documents/a5...

"If Trump can impose his will on Harvard, the most important nongovernmental institution to stand up to him, he will be one step closer to his dream of forcing his version of reality on American society." www.bloomberg.com/opinion/arti...

Montana became the first state to pass the Fourth Amendment is Not For Sale Act, which requires the government to get a warrant before buying our data from data brokers. This is a huge win for our right to privacy and we're urging Congress to follow Montana's lead.

🚨This is a HUGE escalation and a deliberate effort to use the government against Trump's enemies. Weaponizing the Student and Exchange Visitor Program certification against Harvard to punish them for pushing back is a new low — and needlessly punishes thousands of innocent students.

“If you want to live a secret life, that’s a decision that’s going to have real consequences.” Extreme-privacy consultants can make you and your personal information hard to find. But those methods might cost you more than money, Benjamin Wallace writes.

Hello have you seen goldylocks🤣

"Man walks into a bar. It's the starting point for a million jokes," James Poniewozik writes in a Critic's Notebook. "And for season after season on 'Cheers,' some of the best of those were delivered by George Wendt, who died on Tuesday at age 76, as the long-suffering Norm Peterson."

Please read. This is so important. www.cato.org/blog/50-vene...

Hahahaha

This is HUGE. For those wondering why due process is essential for EVERYONE. This is why!

Judge Howell's powerful conclusion in judgment for US Institute for Peace: "The President and his subordinates then used brute force and threats of criminal process to take over USIP’s headquarters, despite being cautioned that this organization did not fall within the Executive branch"

Bravo for Above The Law. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/18/u...

Cato has published my comprehensive review of the ~240 Venezuelans the US government renditioned 2 months ago to Salvador’s notorious prison. We identified FIFTY who came legally, never violated any immigration law, but are imprisoned at the US government’s request and at US taxpayer expense.

This would be an obvious act of ethnic cleansing under international law.

BREAKING: The Supreme Court rules 7-2 to further enjoin the government from summarily deporting alleged gang members under the Alien Enemies Act. The government didn’t give enough notice and the 5th Circuit erred in refusing to provide relief, the justices concluded.

Among other things, Google is arguing Bruce Schneier’s dark patterns testimony should be blocked because experts can’t opine about intent, and the concept of dark patterns design by definition includes the intent to deceive. content.mlex.com#/content/165...

Oh, sweet merciful fire, two notes: (1) Even Latham & Watkins, ya'll. (2) The lawyer defending an AI company for using stolen IP to train their AI/LLM used the company's AI/LLM to cite check her brief, which hallucinated results. fingfx.thomsonreuters.com/gfx/legaldoc...

This is the kind of thing they wouldn't even put in a terrible satirical movie about the dumbing down of America.

Q&A from a talk I gave last week. Q: "What do you think is the biggest threat in cybersecurity right now? Is it post-quantum computing? Is it AI?" A: Fascism. It's fascism.

"When people do see you as a human being, it can look like people not going to jail for being five minutes late to court,” Jones continued. “People getting second and third chances.”

Not that I agree with it but…

I’ve been disappointed by how little interest the remedies portion of the Google Search antitrust trial has received within the privacy community. Privacy, data protection, and information governance is at the heart of much of what is being proposed. A few rambling thoughts from yours truly:

Oh this one is worse than the usual one, because lots of lawyers, plus the judge *told* them there were hallucinations, and they resubmitted the brief with hallucinations.

House Speaker Mike Johnson said he supports a ban on stock trading by members of Congress amid controversy about well-timed trades during recent market volatility.

BREAKING: A woman was kicked out of a women’s bathroom at a Massachusetts hotel by a security guard who demanded she “prove her gender.” No badge gives you the right to sexually harass someone in a bathroom. This is what fascism looks like in real time. And it’s coming to your city next.

Moments before an immigration court hearing in Mahmoud Khalil's case, our lawyers were abruptly banned from using laptops in the courtroom — but the government's lawyers weren't. No one should be denied the basic tools they need to defend themselves in court.
