the light is very good. almost pratfall-worthy

I was looking at the good light and very nearly faceplanted on the concrete after stepping on a rain soaked donut but it’s fine, all is well

in case this wasn’t clear from my syntax, “our neighbors” and “us” are the same people.

oh, and re: the humans with critical thinking skills reviewing job applications: that part is increasingly impossible. Decent job postings get absolutely swarmed with both real and fake applicants, and even the most conscientious, well-staffed hiring teams can’t give them all real attention.

I mean, we have to if we care about our fields staying relevant in the world (which, enough of us tie our own relevance in the world to our jobs that we probably should care about this)

I don’t know that I have a “here’s where we go from here” on this yet, except to say that people like me have to do a better job of understanding what people entering our fields are actually up against today, and letting go of the idea that their experience will be anything like ours was.

What we can do is help people connect the dots between what they know and what a company wants, and help translate that into the right language. That helps if and only if a human with critical thinking skills is reviewing job applications.

I got my first tech job two years out from music grad school. I was hired by a theater major who was hired by a cellist who didn’t care about credentials, at a time when no such credentials even existed. That’s not actionable career advice in 2025.

a beautiful clean answer to my personal FAQ, “wait, did I preorder this already”

my most very generous read of this is that it’s a symptom of tech’s “I can’t imagine why this matters so it must not be important to anyone” syndrome. I am not inclined to be generous.

this smells so much like the “we’re changing banks and can’t issue you pay stubs for a couple months” scam they were pulling at Bitwise

also your wildly late sub renewals are not to blame for a 50% drop in single ticket sales in April and May 😂
